Creating WIN + Key Shortcuts on the Tilt

Here’s an old school tip that works with the Tilt. For this you’re going to need a registry editor, like PHM Regedit.
For years in Windows CE, there’s been an “open secret” of creating shortcuts for applications by using the combination of the WIN key and another (say, WIN + A). This was mostly useless for the Pocket PC crowd as most devices didn’t use a keyboard. However, it still works, and here’s how to take advantage of it on the Tilt.
Remember, editing the registry can have harmful effects on your device. Use the utmost care and backup your device first. And of course, I’m not responsible for any damage to your device, children, or pets as a result.
Click After the Break for the step by step!
Using the registry editor, navigate to the following key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shells\Keys.
Here, you will want to create a new Key. The key name must begin with 40 and end with the two-digit virtual key code that Microsoft uses. Here is a good source for the codes: http://api.farmanager.com/en/winapi/virtualkeycodes.html. So, for this example, we’ll use “A” which is 41.
Create a new key and name it 4041.
Under this key, create a new String value and call it Default. Under the value, put in the full path to the application you would like to launch (for this example, I’m using \windows\ppt.exe).
Close out of the registry editor.
Slide open your Tilt, and simultaneously press WIN + A. PowerPoint Mobile launches!
I have not tried the full extent of the key combinations possible, but all WIN + letter combinations should work fine. Feel free to experiment and let us know what you come up with.
