image Underscoring the growing importance of technology and mobile communications in the 2008 election process, Cricket Communications, Inc.,  today announced that the company is showcasing the United States Declaration of Independence next week at CTIA Wireless 2008 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Attendees at CTIA Wireless 2008 will be able to view and take photographs of the Declaration of Independence in Hall C2 near the VIP and registration areas on April 1, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Declaration is an official copy that belongs to television legend Norman Lear and is part of the Cricket-sponsored Declare Yourself campaign. Founded by Lear, Declare Yourself is a national nonpartisan, nonprofit youth voter initiative aimed at empowering and encouraging America’s 18-year-olds to register and vote in the 2008 primaries and general election.

“Cricket is very excited to bring this opportunity to all the attendees at CTIA Wireless; the Declaration of Independence is a beacon of United States freedom and we are honored to have the ability to showcase it at the event,” said Doug Hutcheson, president and chief executive officer of Cricket. “As a provider of unlimited wireless services, Cricket is very familiar with how essential mobile communications have become as part of people’s everyday lives. We also firmly believe that mobile communication is playing an integral role in politics and the upcoming presidential election. It is with great pleasure that Cricket is bringing the two together at CTIA Wireless.”

“Cricket has been at the forefront of promoting the role of wireless in presidential campaigns,” said Rob Mesirow, vice president of business operations for CTIA – The Wireless Association. “At the CTIA WIRELESS show next week, our third day keynoters will share first hand experiences from the campaign trail. Furthermore, the opportunity to work with Cricket in bringing the Declaration of Independence to CTIA is very exciting. We are thrilled that CTIA attendees from around the world will have a chance to see this historical treasure.”

As the presenting sponsor of Declare Yourself, Cricket is collaborating with the organization to create unique mobile and online content, and wireless applications for young people to engage in the democratic process via their handheld devices. Cricket is also hoping to make registering as easy as possible for its customers and others through the Web site: http://www.mycricket.com/declareyourself. The site gives visitors easy access to voter registration forms and deadlines, as well as details on state primaries and the entire election process.
