Twitter can be a great waste of time, but it can also be a big time saver....it really depends on how you use it.

I've set up quite a few twitter accounts that I use from time to time to post announcements to a wide audience (my students). It works really great. But I've turned off the cell phone texting option and I don't have messages popping up on my computer all day long - that would be too distracting.

Last week, I started using twitter for getting my newsfeed. It's a great way of aggregating one's favorite news sites.

I've avoided using twitter otherwise, because of the IM aspect of it. Too distracting and too tethering for communicating. I like to send an email and walk away.

The first day of twitter newsfeed, I had a few news sites posting straight to my phone. Unfortunately, these sites updated often, so I cut that off quickly. It's much better to head to twitter for the news I want.

Seem like this would be the typical preference, but I do know others really enjoy the whole IM thing.

Twitter seems like the biggest waste of time that I have ever heard. From what I have seen of it, it would drive me crazy in no time.

I use RSS, but, personally, I love web services like Google Reader or Bloglines so that I can sit at any device I like and see the stories that I haven't had a chance to read yet. Newsbreak is nice, for what it is, but when I go back to my PC it seems silly to read RSS on a small device when I have a nice, fast laptop with a nice, wide display. And Google Reader works fine on a WM device.
