Welcome to the New Mobilitysite Homepage

So, it’s been a while and it was time for a refresh of the look and functionality of the Mobilitysite portion of the site. What were the goals I hoped to have accomplished with this update?

  • Cleaner Look
  • Better Commenting
  • Showcasing Original Content
  • Keeping the original feel

So, I think I have accomplished all 4 of those goals…

I have kept the overall look just the same, but I enhanced the content area. One of the worst things about posting lots of updates to a blog/site is that “featured” or “original” content gets scrolled off the main page so fast. Unless you check every day, you will most likely miss something you might have wanted to catch. Well, with the tabbed featured block at the top of the home page, you have all the original and featured content right at your fingertips now. I hope that everyone likes this feature as it was one of the most important in this update. As for cleaner look, that is up for debate. It really all depends on what you like. I like this.

Better Commenting. Comments let us know that you like what we are posting or let’s us know you don’t like it. Either way, feedback and debate are things I like to see here. I have enhanced our commenting system with an external engine that allows for post karma like ratings and allows you to have little avatars and your own commenting profile. The cool thing is that you can also use the same system across many other blogs, most notable is Crunchgear.

I would love to take credit for the complete redesign of this look, but I have to give credit and already gave my $80 to Brian Gardner for the base template we are using now. It’s based on the Revolution Pro Media Theme. I bought this theme for some of wonderful coding and hacked the daylights out of it. If you click this link, you will see what it looked like to start out with. Big difference, huh?

Make sure to comment and let me know if you like it, hate it, or if you have any problems with it.

Yep, it looks great, although I can't say that I am a big fan of the bigger estate each comment takes. It just occupies too much room. Maybe if "on xxxxx date" was next to the nickname, we could save another line.

  • Great job Chris! I'm impressed! :-)

  • Just an FYI. When the author that makes the post replies with a comment, it will be in red as this one should be right now.
