Fall 2009 - site works. Was able to apply mobile number control:
Mobile number control Do Not BlockBlock
This option blocks messages sent to your mobile at MOBILENUMBER@txt.att.net and MOBILENUMBER@mms.att.net. You can still get messages sent to your alias. If you want to set your alias, go to the Message Options page. If you are signed up for alerts from AT&T or another company, and if you choose "Block" for Mobile Number Control, you should update your email address on the third-party web site to include this new

Does anyone know what (text) message the blocked parties will receive after you've blocked them from texting? The problem is, I have a colleage who texts me constantly. I've asked this person politely to stop on more than one occasion. I don't want to block them from calling, simply texting. So my questions is what message will they receive? I am hoping that there is some automated message that informs them their message was not delivered. ...if blocking their text means blocking their number, I will go along with that. Thanks for any information you guys can share.

aquariusrick: I think you need to contact AT&T immediately and explain the situation to them. I've read of similar experiences, and when contacted about it, AT&T removed the charges from the cell phone bill.

You might also look into software that you could install to your mobile device that allows you to "blacklist" numbers. If you can identify the specific number that is sending you all these text messages, you can block the number and then the messages will not be delivered and you shouldn't be charged for the messages. I have not had a problem like the one you describe, so I don't know how well this software works. Here's a link to one such pocket pc application you might want to check out:

I'm currently being bombarded with txt messages. It started over 5 hours ago, I've already received over my monthly limit, they're still coming in and I have no idea where they're coming from. I registered for the AT&T messaging preferences and said to block everything, but they're still coming. It appears that you can't block mobile to mobile messages, only email to mobile, and the changes could take up to 24 hours to take effect.

The only thing that I know of is a company called textgard.com. - It's pretty new - think still in beta, but they have a way to actually block texts and block spam texts from AT&T, Verizon and any other carrier. I downloaded it last week cause I have a 21 year old stalker that will not stop texting me. So I downloaded textgard.com and blocked her texts. Good luck!

This isn't really a way to block text messages. Its a way to block emails from being sent to your phones email address. You still can get spam texts, and AT&T has had this for years.
