pc_capture5 It’s no secret that I have really liked Skyfire. Version 0.5 was excellent with a few bugs. I sent some feedback to them along with what I am sure is a ton of other Beta Testers and they listened! Some of my suggestions was editing bookmarks, and multi line editing for Google! Version 0.6 has all of these in it! I am really excited about this release and have been playing with it all morning. Update came at 6:30am! (zzzzzzz)

Here are the updates log:

  • Multi-line text entry (2000 character limit)
  • Auto-complete text entry
  • Paste into URL or search
  • Ability to delete bookmarks
  • Multiple zoom modes for touch screen phones
  • Double tap to zoom in and zoom out
  • Support for custom virtual keyboards (SIP)
  • Web search shortcut in softkey menu
  • Access to Windows Mobile Taskbar in softkey menu
  • Persistent settings for Smartfit, Mute and Zoom size
  • Support for 12 key and 1/2 QWERTY Devices
  • Password Masking
  • Backlight usage based on system settings
  • OK button sends Skyfire to the background

This is a lot of updates! I think Skyfire may have launched themselves to the front of the Browser Race with this latest release. Check out a ton of screen shots after the break.

  • two things skyfire needs to fix

pandora and slacker not working i want my flash music!

the zoom (not as smooth as Opera and/or iphone) one thing is when you zoom in the text does not auto adjust to fit the screen... SOOOOO annoying if your looking at a site with a lot of text.

check my site i have a comparison youtube djanomoly

Got my beta invite on the 1st and been getting the hang of it. Pretty impressive so far, but flash video performance is choppy, even in 3G coverage areas (will try in wifi). Also, why no love for Pandora??? C'mon Skyfire!!! They also need to add a control widget or something for adjusting volume, as zooming in and out to move the slider is too cumbersome.

What happened to the ability to stream Rhapsody tracks through Skyfire? I could do this on 0.5 (with not great quality). I sent some feedback, and now with 0.6 after I log in Rhapsody tells me I need to download software to listen to music! So sad.

I just received my email at 9:04 AM CST and then the Text message to download at 4:45 PM CST.

    YEA!!!!

What's crazy is that they must have already updated from this version because my version is 0.6.0.4503

Yeah I signed up in January, I guess I am screwed as well!! ARRGHH!!
  • Jeff B
I have been signed up since January 28th and according to their email sent out on March 27th....

"If you signed up between February 8 and March 1, you are in Beta 1. If you signed up after March 1, you are in Beta 2.

Beta 1 is happening now and each week we extend invitations to download Skyfire on a first signed up, first invited basis. It will take us several more weeks to get to everyone signed up during the Beta 1 period. Rest assured, we will get to everyone in Beta 1 by the end of April."

Hmmmmmmm!!!! Since I signed up on January 28th. Does that mean I'm screwed?

yea this is great to see skyfire is getting better but I dont ahve skyfire and cant get it, I cant even PAY FOR IT.
  • @ MSKOV: They are aware of this issue and will be working on it for future releases.

Everyone who is not testing the software yet, just be patient. Skyfire is doing what they can to roll out a finished product at this point. The good news is they are watching our website! So this would be a great way to let them know about issues. I'm sure that they are getting hammered from people who have not gotten theirs. Hopefully this latest release will give them enough feedback to roll out Skyfire to everyone.

and here I thought I was the only one who signed up and never got to download it. come on skyfire, share the beta love
  • Mike Davis
James I feel ya, I have been signed up since February and have yet to hear anything except the first thanks for signing up email.
  • James Schneider
All these updates are great for you but what about all of us that are supposed to be on the 1st beta that are still waiting. I know it takes time to build infrastructure but come on.

Is there a way to make SkyFire the default OS browser so that you can open linkes from email and other linked URLs in applications in SKyFire instead of PocketIE?
