Looks like HTC is putting the screws to Sony also! I just got done watching a video over at theunwired.com on the new Sony Xperia that is supposed to be released sometime at the end of this year. The Xperia is getting good hype for a variety of reasons. One, and not unlike the Kaiser (AT&T Tilt/HTC TyTN II), it is coming loaded with some top notch hardware. Most notably is the processor from our Good “friends” at Qualcomm. The Xperia will make use of the Qualcomm 7200A chipset that will hum along at 520MHz. The Xperia will also sport a very nice 3 inch VGA screen (800 x 480). After checking out the video posted on theunwired, the video performance on this device is absolutely pitiful! It is even slower than my Tilt! Check out the video at about the 3:26 mark and see where he slides the keyboard open. Arne Hess notices this also and says that this is a prototype unit:
On the video above you might have noticed that the device doesn’t seems to be the fastest yet but please keep in mind that it was a prototype. We still have the word from Sony Ericsson that the X1 will take benefit from some kind of graphic hardware acceleration.
So let me get this straight, HTC would be STUPID enough to release an under performing prototype after all of the flack they have caught over the Kaiser, Touch and various others. (Click Here for HTCClassAction.org list of affected devices). This makes no sense to me at all. We all realize that HTC does not seem to care about equipping their devices with the proper drivers but I would have surely thought that Sony would. Sony, if I were you, I would hold HTC’s feet to the fire and MAKE them equip the necessary video drivers or else you can count on seeing your name being burned along with HTC.
