Opera Mini 4.1 introduces the following new features:

“More than 44 million people from all over the world have discovered and fallen in love with Opera Mini,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. “Those people are not just the users of Opera Mini, they are also the co-creators and our most valued critics of the product. We have actively talked to our community members in order to build the best Web browser for mobile phones. I strongly believe that the newest version of Opera Mini will be received with much excitement.”

“Opera Mini 4.1 is just great,” says Ramūnas Monkevičius, a student from Lithuania. “I use it at school to find information on Wikipedia, on the bus to read up on the latest news, and even in bed, for blogging. Opera Mini enables me to be up to date with current events from all over the world. My favorite new feature of Opera Mini 4.1 is the ability to save websites for later reading, it really helps me at school. I can just save my Wikipedia pages and access them whenever I need to. About Opera Mini

Opera Mini is the world’s most popular mobile browser. Since its worldwide launch in 2006, more than 44 million people have used Opera Mini. Not only does Opera Mini deliver the Web to your phone faster, it also displays the page just as it looks in your desktop browser. Opera Zoom function dives into the content for easy reading and interaction. Opera Mini now also includes Opera Link, a free service that synchronizes your bookmarks and Speed Dial between all your Web browsers.

In addition to the massive popularity of people downloading Opera Mini directly to their phones, in 2007 there was strong demand for the company’s embedded browser solution, 59 handsets were announced with Opera Mini pre-installed. Altogether, more than 800 different phone models are being used by Opera Mini.

Opera Mini 4.1 is a free download from http://www.operamini.com. Note that not all features may work on all phones or in all regions. Please contact your mobile operator to check availability of all features on your handset.

My new tilt doesn't seem to want to install any of the opera minis
  • Proto732
Can't get to 4.1 from IE on the Tilt. I installed 3 and then tried the update routine ... but it says it is just going to re-install 3.

Tried "try 4.1" from within Opera Mini and it says my phone can't run it.

My other phone (BlackjackII) had no problem w/getting 4.1 from IE.

The page I find has a choice to download to phone or computer. Either way I have to chose "Generic".
  • Robert
Thanks guys, I'll give it a try. Do you like it better than Skyfire?
  • confused
if you scroll down the page you can directly download 4.1. I don't know why 3 is above 4.1
  • Ryan Rhodes
    edit to my above post-
I just realized that those instructions will lead you to download version 3.1.2. The wap browser at the moment does not seem to allow you to download version 4.1 on the tilt.

Instead, download 3.1.2 as described above, then in your phone go to Java under all programs, move the cursor over opera mini, hit the right softkey that says "menu", choose "actions," and choose "update." This should allow you to update to 4.1 (It did for me).

    Hope this works this time

    Robert-
Go to operamini.com in IE on the tilt. Choose-
"Try the new Opera Mini 4.1," then "Download Opera Mini!" then "Download high memory version."

Opera mini is for just about any modern cell phone that runs Java applications, and as the tilt is a pretty high end device, it definitely runs the high memory version very well. Don't worry that it does not come up as a supported model.

    Good luck!
  • Robert
Which version of Operamini are we supposed to install on the Tilt? The Tilt does not come up as a supported model.
  • confused
this will continue to be the only browser I use on my tilt. I finally got into the skyfire beta and was completely underwhelmed. the zoom feature is terrible compared to the opera browser, and since the tilt can barely run a video, youtube and other similar sites are rendered useless.

    Proto732-
I have heard about that too. However, there are actually two different Opera browsers for mobile phones. The one that you are referring to is Opera Mobile, which is a native WM6 application that installs with a .cab file. This article is about "Opera Mini," a java-application that you then access on your phone from the java menu. Just go to operamini.com from IE on your phone to download it (make sure you are getting version 4.1)

If you haven't ever tried the mini version of opera, I highly recommend it, and you won't run into any of the issues that you are worried about with link permissions. I've been using Opera mini for years, and while it can't match some other browsers (Opera Mobile, Skyfire) in compatibility with things like Flash content, it is BLAZING fast in comparison, and is much more similar to a desktop experience in terms of speed.
  • Proto732
The biggest thing holding me back from installing Opera is the past inability to properly UN-install it.

I have read other users with the same complaint. After removing Opera in the past, it never returned the links to IE in the registry, so every time you tried to open a page from a link it would go to the default (now non-existant) browser and give and error. I attempted to manually reassociate the app with the extensions, but there was always a new error coming up.

Do they have a proper uninstall for this release?
