I live in ft. laud. I have been paying 16.99 a month for local line up (yes FREE broadcast tv) but I live in a 1st floor condo so no choice, plus 45$ for comcast internet, VERY slow lately, and 25$ for att phone basic (NO FEATURES). So we had a salesman going door to door selling "triple play" which my neighbor got for 85$ plus tax. I called the same guy to get the same service which he told me he could set up the same day unless I wanted to keep my same number in which case he'd need to call back with an appointment. I went back and forth with this guy for 3 days after telling me he submitted the paperwork etc that he COULD NOT do it. So I call comcast, every person I talk to gives me different rates (more money) and terms (less time) for the same services. I finally got the VOIP for 19.95 for 12 months, cable for 29.95 for 6 m and internet for 19.95 for 6m then all the prices revert. This was a horrible horrible experience and uphill battle. These people are scam artists. Yes, I'm aware of at&t with lengthy waits but which is worse poor service or unethical business practices? Okay, bad question, my point is comcast is worse. Anyway now after setting up the appointment I read about direct t.v. for 29.95/month for 12 m. (with no begging) for better quality (ALL DIGITAL), more channels at same price with JD powers #1 rated service. HAD I KNOWN !! I'm already scheduled for the comcast service but in 6 m I will switch to direct tv. Please steer clear of these people.

Well, in defense of Comcast, I called today Comcast to ask a question and I was talking to a tech person in less than a minute. I waited yesterday almost 1 hour to talk to somebody on AT&T.

If you are in dade or broward, just be cautious with comcast (you did mention south florida)

the people running comcast are the same knuckleheads that ran adelphia, and customer service does suck tremendously... at&t isn't any better though.

btate0121, you are right, my mistake naming it.

Xerloq, I compared the quality Neflix streaming a movie and I could see the difference in video quality.

Elrendhel, if I ever get 56 kb speed I'll let you know. But I have a friend of mine using Comcast Cable Internet and so far he never have had such speed. ;)

Doesn't comcast offer CABLE internet rather than DSL (through the telephone line). I currently have comcast.... it's definitely throught the cable outlets here rather than over a phone line. Is it different for florida?

You might want to know that the Speed Test doesn't mean anything: Comcast recently removed bandwidth caps for files less than 5MB or so. Since the speed test uses files smaller than that, the results are skewed. You'll find that speed throttled way down with your next Linux Distro or Hulu video...

I totally understand the problems that you're having with AT&T. Currently, the best provider in my area is a fiber based company, but while they can provide higher throughput, they also charge more for it than AT&T DSL.

In that regard, I find it hard to compare one company to another since they use different transport technologies. A friend who also has Comcast has great speeds except when there are pay-per-view fights or such. Then his service is comparable to a dial-up 56K modem.

I will continue to use AT&T DSL, but I certainly will jump ship once their new product Uverse comes to town, although I will probably keep the 3mbps service due to my budget constraints.

A nice extra that I get with AT&T DSL is the ability to utilize free Wi-Fi service at Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, McDonalds, and UPS Stores. This is a major factor for keeping me mobile (since I can't afford a monthly data plan for my cellphone).
