It\'s is possible that the information within this article is now out of date or updated.

iphone3gWe might be from Windows Mobile roots here, but there are some great things that the iPhone has to offer. Although the 1st Generation iPhone didn’t satisfy my needs, I was able to recommend it to some friends and family.

  • No, I am not jumping on the iPhone bandwagon. I am just helping to celebrate the release of the most leaked Apple announcement ever.
  • Yes, I will buy a 3G iPhone. In fact, I am going to buy two again. One for me and one for you, just like last time. Yep, even though we are heavily focused on Windows Mobile powered phones, we gave away a couple iPhones last year.

Yes, that’s right. We don’t have one in hand, but you will as soon as I do. Well, you will if you win this contest. Read on to find out how!

Updated due to recent findings, contest is still on, but we might have to change the way the prize will be awarded. Details after the break.

Here is the updated info… Based on some info in an internal AT&T email that BGR posted, the contest idea is in jeopardy. Instead of going down to a store, buying the phone, and mailing it to the winner, we might need to do it differently. Details on this will be set as more info comes in.

The new 3G device will be activated in store in both AT&T and Apple stores.  Customers must accept AT&T and Apple Ts & Cs, sign a 2-year agreement, and select the data plan for the iPhone 3G before leaving the store.

I read this as that you have to sign up for AT&T to walk out the door with the phone. If this is the case, it would be difficult to fulfil this contest the way I intended. Let’s continue the contest and see how this works out.

The Prize:

The Rules: The rules are quite simple…

  • Comment on posts here on Mobilitysite. On July 11th, 2008, I will randomly select one winner from comments made on all posts from now until July 11th. Comments that are determined by me to be just fluff comments will not count. I will use my best judgement. The selection of the winner will be done on video.
  • Mobilitysite Staff Members (except me) are eligible as this will be totally random.
  • Winners will be limited to the US Only on this one, sorry guys.
  • The prize is the hardware only. No service will be included. That will be up to you to provide.
  • In the event of the hardware is not available at the time the contest ends, the winner will still be selected and will have to wait for availability. ( I don’t expect this, but just making sure in case there is a shortage)
  • I reserve the right to change the rules to protect the fairness of the contest.

That’s it, Good luck!

Does this mean I will have succumbed to the bashings of all my friends who have said I MUST get an iPhone. I submit this comment with excitement AND caution....

OMG!!! I wanna win so bad, I'm always finding my self using my brothers iphone...lol, but I can't help it. I have a helio ocean, but if I could get my hands on the iphone 3G I'll definitely make a switch. Please god make me win....I'll rub It all over my bro...ha!:)
  • This shouldn't count as an additional entry, but with the activation bug now would be the time to buy one, Chris. :)
  • Andy Dai
I hope i will win because I've never had a iPhone before and this would be great if i won it. Great contest!!! I HOPE I WIN =)
  • I am really amped about getting an iPhone but I am NOT, I repeat, NOT amped about the service plans that AT&T is offering with the iPhones.

I use the internet a lot so I must have the unlimited data plan. But guess what? The unlimited data plan doesn't include text messaging. To get text messaging, you have to pay an additional $20 a month. A package with 1300 minutes, unlimited data and unlimited text messaging with run over $150. That same plan on Sprint is only $99. AT&T needs to rework their iPhone plans since Sprint now has the Instinct - an iPhone killer.

Wow, I just stumbled upon this site and I'm really liking the posts. I didn't necessarily jump on the bandwagon right away. I thought I'd wait for the right time to even consider an iPhone, and now seems perfect! I don't have one yet, but to win the iPhone 3G would be amazing! Being a college student and all, a $299 phone would be quite the purchase. I hope I am considered, the new iPhone would be the best gadget I could own!

I really wonder if they can exchange my refurbished iPhone for free when I just purchased recently...

I've been reviewing an Iphone for work. The crippling of the Bluetooth stack is heart breaking. Why have the hardware and just disable all that handy usability stuff? The interface is pretty slick. There are a few gotchas, and haptic response would really help, especially when trying to work the device without looking at it. The 3G radio may or may not make a difference, we'll just have to see. My N75 is in the shop right now so I'm not sure if I'll be needing a new phone but here is mud in your eye.

one more thing, i heard that the new ipod has a plastic body, is that true
  • Gomcoite

As always, Chris, you never cease to amaze me. This is an awesome contest! I am also glad the the MSM is back. Its been away too long, and I will need to resubscribe, as I thought you had kinda canned the idea. Glad I was wrong!
  • I could really use this when I am out doing chores in the pastures. Mucking stalls, fixing fence lines and playing with all the critters! It would sure add a lot to the enjoyment of my day... What if I would get hurt and not be able to get inside to make a phone call? Sure could save my life!
  • VICTOR
man, awesome contest. I wish I can win the ipohne so that i can replace the crappy samsung phone that I have got.
  • Radimus
I wouldn't mind an iPhone... if for no other reason than to seperate fact from fantasy.

and I could extort all kinds of concessions from my kids when i'd regift it... :-)

My purse is too heavy these days with my Axim, iPod, cellphone and other assorted necessities. The iPhone is in my future!
  • Dave1313
I have been staring at the iphone ever since it came out, but could never afford it. If they only put it on Verizon service then it would great. Currently running xv6700 thats falling apart and would love this upgrade. Thanks to you guys for running these contests and I hope the winner actually puts it to good use (not ebay).

I am a HTC Tilt owner and I love the phone, but I really would like to have an iPhone. I have had hearing problems all my life with several surgeries to try to correct it. Because of that, I never really enjoyed music until a friend made me listen to his iPod. Well, I was hooked and I recently purchased a used iPod to put music on. I carry it everywhere and I love being able to put movies on it. I know my tilt does this as well, but space is limited.
One of the best things about my Tilt is being able to hook it up to my laptop for when I am out of range of my wifi, but I understand the iPhone 3G does not allow this. Is this correct?
I would love to have the convenience of both phone and iPod in one and I was waiting on the 3G version.
  • Bob
If Marianne does not win, I sure hope that I do.

    Thanks for the chance
  • Wow I must admit you guys really go all out. I heard about the planet outage that was crazy!

I'm usually more of an HTC fan myself but I totally wouldn't argue with a free 3G iPhone so here's hoping!

    Keep up the good work!
  • Paulina
I would love to win the iPhone 3g. If you saw my current phone, you'd die laughing...or crying, like I do every time I use it. ;)

I don't own a cell phone yet, but the iphone does sound interesting. A friend let me try his out and the interface was soothing, but as a medical professional I'm waiting until installable applications like Epocrates come out so I can conserve battery power and not rely on wireless connections alone. I also hear StyleTap has an iphone version in the works, which would open up many useful Palm medical applications.

    I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
