A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

opera.jpgI have been so annoyed by having to answer the “do you want to allow” type questions on start up of Opera Mini.  I’m using it as my default browser now and was determined to find a way around this.  My first thought was to go to XDA-developers and of course I found a solution so wanted to share it.

shiranmotha Has posted a version of a cab file that installs everything so if your installing a fresh rom you can install the cab that includes opera/esmertec jbed/signing fix.  If you already have opera installed you’ll need to download just the Opera_Mini_tweaks.ZIP and extract the sign_operamini.exe file.  This is the method I used.

I only had opera mini installed with no other midlets so I’m not sure if there are any issues using this program with other midlets installed but ideally I’d reccomend running this with only opera mini midlet installed then reinstall your other midlets.  As always make sure you have a backup before attempting anything with the system type files.

As mentioned in the XDA post perform the following steps to remove the nag dialogs on network connect of opera mini

1.) Copy the file \windows\appdb\selector.utf to your PC
(make sure backup this file first in case something goes wrong!)
2.) Remove read-only attribute
3.) Extract the file “sign_operamini.exe
from my zip to the same folder and run it.
4.) It will patch the selector.utf and create a backup too.
5.) Now replace the selector.utf file in the pocket PC with the patched.
6.) DONE

If it doesn’t work you can simply replace your original selector.utf to go back to your original configuration.

Details can be found on this XDA-developers post [xda-developers]

    @j:

have u even tried the fix?
  • vkoser, If you use a signed version of Opera Mini 4.1 jbed will ask the question and you simply select "yes, allow from now on" and it wont ask the message again. I am not seeing this bug that you described and I posted a guide on how to get a version of opera that works fine here and in the wiki.

Thanks! god that was such a pain in the ass. I had the signed beta version, but the new release nagged every time

    Great find! Thanks!
  • If your using Jbed which works much better than Jeodek then there is a bug where it asks you this every time. Regardless of if it is signed or not. This prevents that from happening. If your not using Jbed give it a shot its much better full screen than Jeodek midlet manager.

Um, how about getting Opera Mini 4.1 that has certificates?

    This site is becoming laughable.
