googleoncrack Okay, now I’m mad! Google, what are you thinking?? Come up with some awesome new features for Google Maps 2.2 for Mobile and it only works on BlackBerry’s or Java enabled devices?  Joe Hughes over at Google Mobile Blog says:

This version of Google Maps for mobile also includes a bunch of other goodies, like faster searching on BlackBerry devices and star ratings for businesses. It’s currently available for BlackBerry devices and many other Java-based phones. To download it to your phone visit http://www.google.com/gmm from your phone’s web browser or on the desktop.

Here are some other cool features of Google Maps 2.2:

Enter the new version of Google Maps for mobile. This version (2.2) allows you to get transit directions in all the same places as the web version of Google Maps, including Chicago, the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Vancouver, and over 40 other cities in North America.

This version of Google Maps for mobile even has a few tricks not yet available on the desktop version of Google Maps. For instance, you can find the last transit trips of the day (to figure out how late you can stay at the party) and more easily browse through earlier or later trips. The
My Location feature, available on most phones, also makes it easier to set the start point of your journey.

I’m personally loving this rivalry between Google Maps and Windows Live Search! Because there is always one sure winner, US! They keep coming out with better software all the time. And the upside is that it is all FREE!!!

Check out the Video after the break!

We’ll keep you updated on when Google Maps 2.2 for Pocket PC enabled devices is released. For now enjoy the video and the photo above I have label Google on Crack! Enjoy!

  • Pissed off !
Thanks Google for selling out. I like the old google maps on my Ipaq wifi. but the new version is inoperable on this unit. You should at least put back the older version for downloading.

It seems Google has something against WinMobile. The fancy GMail exclusive to iPhone keeps getting tweaked and the rest of us have a stagnant version. Now this Blackberry only app and you see which major mobile OS is being left out??
  • rich
    correction NOT 2.2
  • rich
You are correct sir! The one I just downloaded a few days ago is NOT 2.0 it is 2.1.0.10 THAT one works fine (G)
  • rich: Can you check the version? Please screen shot and tell us where you donwloaded it from. XDA developers has a cab posted but it is NOT 2.2. Please check your version on your device and let us know.

    THANKS!

    Doug

...It's working fine on my tilt..GPS..directions..as far as I can tell everything. Am I missing something?
  • JohnnyB
    P.S. - I have a Tilt running a Dutty ROM.
  • JohnnyB
I'm currently running Google Maps 2.1.0.10 w/o issues. Where is the information that shows that 2.2 is available for BlackBerries?

    Thanks,
    John
  • Apparently it is true, no one at Google uses Window Mobile Devices. First their imap issues and now this!
