Wow! After months of discouragement, it appears that the secret group of hackers often referred to on HTCClassAction.org have made a beak through! Behold the video below is using an OpenGL ES (CM) Test Application. While the video has white flashes running through it, pay particular attention to the upper left hand corner. There are two rotating images that are very smooth. (Please note that the white flashes are not a result of the Driver, but a problem with the test application)

According to HTCClassAction.org:

The OpenGL ES driver providers the base for the Direct3D driver on the MSM7200 and MSM7500 platforms, which in turn provides the DirectDraw (2D) capability; so getting the OpenGL ES driver to work correctly is a big step in getting the D3D and DD working.

There are actually three different devices being used to take files from to create this driver, the KS20, The HTC TyTN II 6.1 ROM update, and of course the HTC Diamond. While we all know from several videos that the Diamond has had some issues with choppy playback, it appears that HTC has released a ROM update for the Diamond in Europe that has not been tested yet by the Hackers working on the TyTN II Drivers. Let’s hope this new Diamond ROM Update also advances the project!

So this is some very interesting news. Let’s hope that we can make use of this driver soon!

The flashing on the screen may be due to the refresh rate on the tilt screen in conjunction with using a video camera.
