truckcam_1It sounds like the url for a really bad porn site… truckbuddy.camstreams.com

Oooofff! You wince just saying it, however this gentleman has an unusual and somehow intriguing concept for logging his life, in real-time with a webcam. truckbuddy is, as you may have guessed, an 18 wheel truck driver, and has put together a somewhat tech-savvy setup in his truck:

THE SET UP
a web cam
The aircard is a Sierra AC580.
The router is a D-Link DIR-450.
It’s a sweet geek setup.

So he broadcasts wherever he is in the USA live, 24 hours a day, unless he drives thru an area with no reception for his broadband card.

Everybody and their brother has a web cam broadcast, however, this is the first one I have heard about that is mobile… and somehow that makes it  a little more interesting.

While he updates his position occasionally, manually, what would be cool, is if there were some way to patch in a GPS signal, so you could tell exactly where he is, and if there was some way to easily snapshot video and audio content so there could be an ongoing blog available, after the fact.

Anyway this is what I call reality-programming. It’s the Truman Show, in a semi-truck with fuzzy XM radio in the background. I think this is a good and creative use of modern, mobilized technology.

Bravo!
