There is no question that Palm has experienced some major hurdles lately but they have had some great results from sales of the Centro. In fact, the Palm sales numbers show an increase from 7.9% in the 4th quarter of last year to 13.4% in Q108. I’m pleased to see that and hope that the trend continues. Why? Because I still feel that the Palm form factor is the easiest to use of all the devices on the market. The Palm 700W and the Palm 750 absolutely changed the way I use a Windows Mobile device.
The Centro, which sells for $99 is a big hit for those folks that want a decent phone at an affordable price. It was a smart move to target first-time buyers and “experienced users” that want a second device that has more features than a typical feature phone. For $99, it is probably the best deal in the market. There are hundreds of applications available, many are freeware for the price conscious buyer and you can easily browse the web with an HTML browser as well as compose, send and receive email with a very comfortable keyboard.
This is one device I would drool over if there was an option to get it as a Windows Mobile smartphone …. but I also know that the Palm 850 is coming soon and it will undoubtedly more than satisfy my need for Windows Mobile. Keep it up Palm. Remember, it was the turtle that won the race … slow but steady.
