A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Samsung Omnia to AT&T? I Sure Hope So!

attomniaOh boy, this is huge new for me as an AT&T Mobility customer if it’s true! Take a look at Arne’s video view of this sweet looking phone. This phone is being heavily compared to the iPhone, but you know, it’s running Windows Mobile 6.1. That means that the Apple folks are going to hammer it no matter what. Right?

BGR is reporting that they have some inside info from the "boys in blue"….

That’s what our AT&T boys in blue are sayin’! Want some details on it? Well, it’s rumored to have all the usual AT&T stuff like AT&T Music, AT&T Video, AT&T Navigator, and more. But, it’s also going to have AT&T Mobile TV, too. The other specs are pretty well know: a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional device with a 5 megapixel camera with face detection, quad-band EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, 3.2″ WQVGA touch screen (sadly it’s 240×400), Bluetooth, and either 8GB or 16GB of internal memory. We’re working on some press shots for y’all, but in the meantime, go on and keep comparing it to the iPhone 3G…

We'll see if AT&T will KILL THIS ONE BY DISABLING WiFi in it also.
I don't beleive AT&T has ever released a Samsung phone with WiFi enabled...
  • It's funny you mentioned the Glyde. I am getting one today for a brief check out period.

How does AT&T keeps on getting all the good phones and my carrier (Verizon) gets all the crappy phones???

I was really all the features about this phone at http://www.Samsung-Omnia.org I got to say it's really amazing.

The Samsung Glyde is no where near this Omnia both features and look and feel, it's really disappoint for verizon. Verizon needs to get its acts together soon or they will get hammered by AT&T.

I was going to switch from Sprint to AT&T with iPhone 3G but then I took an hour and tried out Sprint Instinct at the store. It is an awesome phone and a serious competitor (except browser which will be resolved with Opera Mini soon).

Other than that, it is very customizable, single handed operation for most stuff, fast Touch-screen response, real GPS (unlike iPhone which just tacks on Google Maps) with turn-by-turn directions.

You can even download Google maps (both street view and satellite view) on Sprint Instinct (should be integrated with GPS in a little while as well). The voice command search is awesome (you say Chinese Food and it will find nearby using GPS and even give you a one-touch number to call or one-touch to turn-by-turn GPS directions), and 30+ TV channels and a lot of Radio channels are included. It also has a camcorder that iPhone doesn't. It is perfect size (iphone is too wide).

And best of all, for $69.99 single line or $129.99 for 2 lines, you get everything that iPhone 3G will provide plus UNLIMITED Text messaging (iPhone will cost $20 extra per month!) and UNLIMITED TV and RADIO time (no TV or Radio on iPhone)!

The TeleNav GPS on Instinct is like high-end GPS unit for a car and it has voice command with real names of streets. It also checks for real-time traffic alerts and re-routes you!

You can even set Instinct up to announce (text to voice) the names of phone callers on incoming calls or text messages!

And it cost me $129.99 at BestBuy (no mail-in rebates needed) with renewal of 2-year contract (I was 23 months into the contract). This is the best deal for my money and I got 2 of them for me and my wife and she loves it!
  • This is the devidce I've been waiting for. The 5 megapixel camera is what's tipping the scale for me.

Also, I know Samsung drop in some nice features/additions out of the box on their WinMo devices. The ability to build your own "homescreen" from drag-and-drop widgets is a nice touch. Samsung also do a nice job.

But until I see it in an AT&T store, I'll not hold my breath for it.

I agree, the screen resolution is pitiful. Perhaps that is because they haven't figured out how to fit proper drivers in their devices yet! :)

I do love HTC, but it bugs me that drivers are the last piece of the puzzle they need to build the ULTIMATE device. I'm sorry, game over iPhone. The Raphael with proper network bands for the US would be a better hit I think. VGA Baby!

Overall I really like this device, but I can't help but wish they had upped the pixel count a bit more than they have over the now ubiquitous 240x320....going 240x400 just isn't enough. Thankfully most everything else is quite sweet.
