A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Windows Mobile Site Redesigned

Posted by Kristofer on June 27, 2008 – 6:34 am
closeThis post was published 1 year 4 months 13 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.

So I got an email this morning announcing the redesign of the Windows Mobile website,  winmo1it was called ‘Windows Mobile Owners Circle’, but now it’s called ‘Windows Mobile Total  Access’.

From the email:

We have a new look and feel for the Web site, along with the new name. We’re also working harder than ever on more fun offers, new software, great content, and useful technology to help you get the most from your Windows Mobile phone.

Windows Mobile Total Access is your guide to all your phone can do:

Make your phone unique with free ringtones, extras, and add-ons.

Learn what you can do with your phone with tips, premium help, and how-to advice.

Do even more with games, software, services, and more.

Check out the new Web site on both your PC and your mobile phone!

See how easy it is to find the ringtones, games, or help content you’re looking for.

Personally I really don’t bother with the site too much, it seems to me that they are just trying to sell stuff to you for your phone. They offer games, apps, ringtones etc, but most are only trial versions. Yes there are free things there and numerous tips to help you make the most out of your phone, but to me it’s just not a site that is high on my list of resources for my phone.

Does anybody out there use the Windows Mobile site? Have you gotten anything good or learned anything useful from the site?

On a side note there is a page all about Windows Mobile 6.1 and it mentions the winmo2 phones that are compatible with 6.1, it of course lists the Tilt as one of those phones but then it goes on to say that you’ll have to go to your carrier to get to the update and it says the update will be available this year… so I wonder when ATT will get their act together and give us the update?! And yes I know WinMo 6.1 is floating around out there right now, but I’m not into flashing ROMs etc, and from what I’ve read the versions that are out there now are kinda buggy and have major problems, I’m waiting for the official release from ATT as I hope they’ll fix things and make it work correctly for the Tilt.

  • PUSH email isn't a business application/use?

Word/excel/pdf/powerpoint access and editing isn't a business use?

calendar, contacts, notes, plus some for 3rd party apps, that can be synced with a network or laptop/pc isn't a business application?

a portable computer in your pocket with perpetual internet access isn't a business application?

sure... if you're a garbage man. LOL.

I'm an IT guy.. so you can imagine i'm pushin some funcionality to the max. not to mention option blackberry service support through att. so if you don't like the blackberry os (like i don't.. feels like stoneage next to windows mobile) but your company (like mine) doesn't support microsoft exchange.. but DOES support blackberry servers..... it's still a heavy contender

that's without mentioning the obvious benefits of portable media, built in gps, voice recording (i use this a LOT), camera with VIDEO (poo on the iphone). c'mon guy... a heavy phone? i think you just don't have a job where you can USE this extra function. i travel to different sites for my company, and manage spreadsheets and databases.. so when i'm out and about and get an email request for the latest pricing matrix.. i can either mail it off the storage from my phone immediately.. or vpn and get it... then send it... immediately.

no useable apps from a business point of view? man.. that's almost laughable.

that's just my day job... i won't go into personal use (blogging, helping me earn some cash on the side with my musical endeavors, gaming, web browsing, mp3 player, video player... long flights on planes anyone? waaaaaaaaaaay better battery life over a stinkin ipod.. LOL... and then some.. with all the 3rd party apps.... that add even MORE functionality.. but like i said.. i won't get into it.) My wife and I both use windows mobile phones (she has a blackjack and LOVES it). she's not very tech savvy at all, but once i got her the 3125... which she quickly upgraded to a blackjack for the keyboard.. she was hooked and is never going back.

    heavy phone.... indeed.

Its just a new face. Nothing new in the content that I can see. Its a waste of time site. To be honest I dont see many usable apps from a business point of view for the Tilt. It would be nice to get opera 9.5 for mobile, other than that its a real heavy phone.

I was at Microsoft TechEd 08 USA in Orlando the 2nd week of June and spoke to the ATT enterprise sales reps manning their booth. They said that they will be releasing the WM 6.1 ROM in August 08 and will be available not from the ATT support website, but from the HTC US website.

I am also anxiously awaiting the WM 6.1 ROM upgrade for my Tilt. I have come close to flashing a cooked ROM, but I chickened out because I use my phone for mission critical patient care, if it bricks, I may as well stay home! I specifically ask an AT&T Operator about the upgrade and she told me its going to happen quarter three (July/August/September). I am mostly interested in the improved battery life of 6.1. Presently, I'm "running on empty" towards the end of the day.
