Going Back to Forum Commenting Only?

webdev-user-icon I have waffling back and forth on this. I have had a bunch of requests to allow for forum commenting again. The problem is, I really want to have one or the other. Having two conversations on the same story is tough to follow. I am considering finding the guy that helped me bridge the comment before and hiring him back again. What do you think? One thing to note, if I do go back to forum commenting, I will have it set up where there can be "unregistered user" comments too. The will be moderated, but it will keep people form having to register in the forums if they don’t want to.

If you stick to the blog then make sure that the search utility will work on blogs.
I had some difficulties to find back here again :o

Either way works, but I always check forum posts. I always login directly into Unread Posts, so I tend to check blog posts there as well, and I rarely click on read more.. link, which is broken about half the time for some reason, which I reported in MOD section.
Anyway, I would prefer to have comments and FULL blog post in forum as well, just like the old way, like days of vBPortal. I am sure it was much easier to manage as well, anyway, best of luck.

Box has hit the nail on the head.

If you don't post the FULL question in the forums as well, then you are necessarily going to receive a biased view - i.e. the vast majority of the people who respond to this blog post will be in favour of blog comments, because that is precisely what they are doing. Those that aren't in favour, or don't use blog comments, will in all probability not comment. QED.

I would be in favour of forum comments, incidentally.
  • I'm a bit torn on this, but I think it should be blog-only commenting for such news items. Plus two commenting sections is a nuisance for staging contest comments originating from the blog. ;-)

I would suggest you post the same question directly in the forum section and see how many people vote and comment there.

This is one of my very few replies here but I've replied a lot more in forums, so that's what I'm used to.
Maybe it's just an old habit - which can be changed :)

But I must admit that the login requirements has often prevented me for answering - elsewhere.

So, maybe the blog is the future ?

Chris - whatever you choose I'm confident that we'll all benefit - thank you for your effort :)
  • I am going to leave this topic for a week or so and see what type response we get. Remember the early days of Aximsite, user feedback molded what we have today :)

The ease of the blog is what I like, I'm a bit tired of forums now.
  • i make all my comments here from my mobile device. i wouldn't even think of navigating a forum to place them.

is there a way to have comments from either show up on the other?
  • I belong to enough forums that I rarely visit. But I do read a lot of blogs.

    I like direct access.

I'd rather have a more direct way to comment than having to log into yet another forum.

    Just my two cents.

When I see this: "Thanks for looking...

This is just an excerpt of the original blog post, to read the entire contents and comment, please click here."

I rarely click through to read the rest of the post, or add my thoughts, because I just can't stand having to click on a link to continue doing what I was doing, which was viewing and posting on the forums. If I am viewing the forums on my PDA, I won't even consider clicking through to the blog post because that's just more waiting I have to do for another page to load when I was already on the forum and could have just viewed it there had a thread been allowed in the first place.

    Just my $.02.
