pc_capture98 First, thanks to tipster Josh for hookin’ me up with the latest news on Opera 9.5 Beta. It looks like Opera has released an update to the “buggy” Official 9.5 Beta release. Of course many people have been using it from the good folk over at XDA that have extracted it out of the Diamond that has Opera embedded in it from HTC. Whereas the first Diamond Build 1409 was not very good ported to the Kaiser, the second build is much better, Build 1660. I have been using this build and have had pretty good experience with it. However, I have abandoned the Official Beta Build 1718 altogether.

So now a new update pops up on the Opera Blog dated 7/29/08. As you can read below the update does not seem to fix the screen rendering issue I was having, but fixes the notification sounds issue:

We have updated the beta1 with a fix for the (very annoying) bug that turned off the notification sounds. The notification bugfix was relatively trivial and had a low risk. We are aware of the other bugs and issues, but these aren’t adressed in this update.
There have been reports of OOM (Out of Memory) problems on some devices. Phil Nickinson over at WMExperts.com have suggested a
workaround to avoid this problem. By changing the location of the folder where Opera stores the cache-files, more memory is available for Opera.
Please note that depending on the speed of the memory card, Opera might perform slower and you will probably experience some delays when Opera reads and writes to the cache.

So head over to Opera Mobile or CLICK HERE to Download if you want to give the update a spin. I’m holding with Build 1660 for now.

    1938/1660

I'm pretty new to the Tilt but was immediately unimpressed with IE. I made the switch to Opera 9.5 and have never been happier. However...I do have one complaint. I like to leave my screen sideways on the Tilt, when I open it up it doesn't ever hesitate and just remains sideways instead of flipping between vertical/horizontal modes. When I close Opera my screen is always left upside down (upside down from QWERTY board). Is there any fix for this? I have tried the QVGA of both builds 1938 and 1660. If there's a build that doesn't have this bug taht would be great. Thank you!
  • Thanks for the heads up... I suppose Beta software is where the bugs get fixed.

I'm liking this a lot, certainly I'm now going to websites and expecting them to work... unlike PIE where I expected them not to

so opera was the culprit behind the notification sounds not working huh? i couldn't figure it out for the life of me why the sounds weren't working when i received text messages. i also switched back to the 1660 build and will hold on to it until drastic updates take place.

Looks like the soft keyboard is still reverting to the Microsoft one. Looks like I'll be sticking with the new Diamond build a while longer.
