I am always hesitant to post anything about Skyfire because of the un-customer friendly way they went about their Beta-Testing Program. A number of people have emailed me complaining and there are of course, many comments posted that echo the same negative sentiment. But, I do feel like it is my responsibility to keep you guys informed and let you know how things are going. So with that…
The first bit of news is the pleasant surprise that I got yesterday when I fired up Skyfire. They have added a weather tab to all the wasted real estate at the bottom of the screen. As you can see, there is still a lot of wasted screen, but this is something new that I thought was interesting. I am using version 0.610.4721. This particular version has been real “buggy” for me more so than the last version connecting to the Internet. But all in all, I am still as impressed with Skyfire today as I was during my Initial Impression that you can find by CLICKING HERE. It works very well in My EDGE environment and it has truly allowed me Desktop PC Browsing on my AT&T Tilt. The fact that it plays flash websites is huge. I really like watching YouTube videos, and yes, they are choppy. But some play better than others. I am hopefully going to be in a 3G area next week and one of my priorities is to see about the 3G Video Play.
And Lastly, it appears even though Skyfire has not released the browser to the masses, it is making steady progress with a recent 13 million dollar infusion of money, (That always helps!) and the recent addition of “Industry Veteran” Mike Rowehl. Mike is: “…a programmer, entrepreneur and blogger at “This is Mobility”, has close to a decade of experience in developing mobility systems. Most recently, he founded and acted as CEO of Mowser, the Web “mobilizer” that turns Web pages into mobile-friendly WAP sites.” Mike will be responsible for: “…the Scalability Architect at Skyfire, Rowehl will be responsible for driving the architecture and development of Skyfire’s browsing service.” This all appears to be good news for everyone waiting on the release of Skyfire’s Browser.
