Okay, I have been thinking about this all day wondering what the next Tilt is going to be like. Now, there has been some rumors that it will be a variant of the HTC Touch Pro. Some Rumors have pointed the Tilt to be Sony XPERIA, but it is confirmed that it will show up as a branded device on AT&T. So what will the next Tilt be like? Well, one can almost assume that it will have a VGA Screen and Video Out (YES!!!!). But how much else will the next device really improve over the current Kaiser? (AT&T Tilt / HTC TyTN II)

So I thought it would be fun to throw up a little weekend poll since not a whole lot happens on the Blogosphere over the weekend, so as not to interupt the normal news and reviews we report to see what everyone thinks about the next device release. Have you already thought about whether or not you will purchase it? For me, it’s a done deal. I will have the next device regardless. I have owned every one of the prior AT&T WinMo devices. I have already informed my wife I WILL be getting it. (Even though she was sleeping, I distictly saw her nod her approval!)

So throw up a vote and maybe leave a comment about what you would like to see added to the next device released by AT&T. Let’s all hope it Tilts because that really shortens the shelf life of TiltSite! (LOL, we’ll always be here) Have some fun, and let everyone know what you think! Let’s keep the Driver Rant to a minimum. We all want better drivers, that’s a given. But what else?

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Has anyone heard of a new tilt coming out? The tilt is about to be out dated and I want one but as soon as I do the is going to be another one, I just want to know how much longer am I going to have to wait.
  • anmc28
    ok adr thanks
  • JoeCool
Never found a deal on any HTC phones on E-Bay. I can re-new my contract with AT&T (not a big deal) and get one for $199 after rebate. E-Bay is selling them used for $320 plus. But I am not concerned about the tilt. Just want an HTC phone. Would love the Touch Pro. Just need to know how long to wait.
Oh, my daughter is fine... she made me buy her a new Samsung Slider. SPOILED BRAT!!!!
  • @joecool: I loved the 8125 when it was released. The dual speakers were very nice and I thought the form factor and look was great. I miss it. As for the Tilt II, Don't be surprised if it goes into next year before we see a new device branded the Tilt II. It is more likely from the rumors that AT&T; will see the XPERIA or even perhaps the HTC Touch Pro first. If it were me, I would hunt ebay for a deal on the Tilt and hold for the next device. If you look you can find someone who is selling one for cheap.

AND GIVE YOUR DAUGHTERS PHONE BACK!!!! :)
  • JoeCool
Well, I've had my 8125 by Cingular for 2 1/2 years. Since it finally got crushed after skidding across the street off my motorcycle, I think it's time for an upgrade. (Wish I could post a pic. This phone's been through hell) But I don't want the device that's already slated for replacement. So tell me, when's this new Tilt II coming out? I am sick of this KRZR that I stole from my daughter 2 weeks ago.

Get the Tilt for now providing you know what you are doing. This phone needs to be customized by the user with additional (mostly free) applications. If you know what you want, let me know and I can suggest several applications that you should have to make the Tilt work for you.

I personally do not intend to buy a new phone until there are devices that can support WinMo 7.0 (early next year). It is possible that WinMo 6.1 phones released later this year would be upgradable, but why not wait till then?
  • ADR
    George,

all phones work but test the iPhone before buying it. The onscreen keyboard is a major problem (for me at least) and it is not available in the landscape mode. And if you depend on voice dialing for hands-free, this is not available either. Otherwise, it is a good consumer phone (although I hear that voice quality is not particularly good). Text manipulation is also problematic and Office application support is very minimal. If you are getting PowerPoint presentations, there is no PowerPoint viewer.

Do you think it will be comming out this year if so i will just wait was thinking of getting the tilt this week
  • George
I'm getting an Iphone... they just kinda work
  • ADR
I find it funny reading some of the comments here. Guys, for closing the dialer just press the hang up key!! I find nothing particularly intimidating or non-intuitive in WinMo. Nor have I noticed the phone to be particularly slow at some tasks. Having said so, the Tilt can benefit from a faster processor, flush and larger screen, faster GPS, a 3.5'' headphone jack and better battery. A better camera would be welcomed as well. But this is true for all WinMo phones, right?

I really do not care if AT&T bundles the phone/applications into an *attractive* "iphone" like package. I very much prefer to have potential interfaces (such as TouchFlo 3D) as options. I think that I can do a better job customising the phone myself.

I do agree with some that the video drivers were substandard on the phone but they were never really promised. For those who want to see YouTube and other videos on the Tilt that play fine without any drivers, please install vTap from VeVeo. It is an impressive application, far better than any drivers that HTC may come with.
  • @Jericho: Tyler is working on the Android OS right now and I can't wait to see his article. I will also hold my Tilt and not sell it like I normally do. (to offset the device cost) I think I am going to start a pledge drive though. To solicit money for the next device. Not to purchase it of course, but to pay for the lawyer when I get divorced! LOL Just kidding. I HAVE TO HAVE IT! The Touch Pro keyboard will be awesome! I am positive it will be VGA with Video out as it seems to be on everything now. I just hope for larger screen size.

@ everyone: Thanks for all the comments. It really helps to get feedback from you all so we stick to what our readers want. I am said to see 32 people not come back to the HTC/WinMo platform. But maybe the next release will be so awesome, they will have to!
  • Jericho
Looking forward to either the Dream or Touch Pro, depending on how 'open' Google really intends to be with its OS. I'll still hold on to my Tilt to play with as I'm holding out hope that Android can be ported to it. Heck, there's already an active thread on it over on xda-devs.

Woot i just got my AT&T Tilt today at one of my friends referred Cingular stores and is this phone banging. I mean it is my first PDA phone so i will have so much to get used too but this phone is off the hook. Especially if the next AT&T Tilt II comes out it'll blow out other phones on the market especially the Sidekicks. When the next AT&T Tilt II comes out I'm confirmed that i will be getting it.

    You needed another voting option,
No - i'm finished with HTC

I had to finally return a Tilt due to 2 physical malfunctions and the replacement (refurb) send to me is almost as bad. The sliding top flops open on the wrong side and I was unable to turn the device power off for about 14 hours.
I think the Samsung Omnia looks better.
  • I was eagerly waiting for the release of Tilt last year.

Having used the Tilt for the last 10 months, I too have mixed feelings. Its a very powerful device which does lots of things but mostly only through some sort of tweaks. Even though most of the people who buy the Tilt are Tech Savvy ones, but still having to fight with the OS for almost everything is painful. Sometimes, it takes so much time to even close the dialer.

When I try to show some cool feature to friends and click on something and it doesnt come up till a little while, its a little embarassing.

Another thing I miss a lot is a big screen to view photos or browse cool sites. 2.8" is a bit let down for me and even now, I dont see any new devices from HTC coming up with a bigger screen.

And not having a proper email client which shows pictures is a big let down. Clicking the 'show pictures' and 'tap to scroll right' are outright irritating.

Though my brother gave me a check for $400 on my birthday to buy an iphone, I used that money for the Tilt just because of my antipathy towards the closed and dictator like attitude of Apple.

I have been a fan of HTC and was defending it against Iphone all these days but somehow I dont feel the Tilt provides the best User experience.

I hope next time they come up with a device that provides END to END User experience or I am gonna sadly succumb to the Iphone.
  • The Tilt was my first WinMo device, and I have very mixed feelings about it. I've come to depend on it for keeping my schedule in order, and I use it constantly for email and messaging (with BIS) and it's a phenomenal Swiss Army Knife device -the darned thing does everything you could want, generally within acceptable (if sometimes sluggish) performance parameters.

That said, it remains what it is- a sometimes frustratingly slow device with a pretty clunky, non-intuitive, needlessly complicated OS, and one that's offered by a carrier with, to say the least, a rather aggressive price structure. I love the device's capabilities but the goal of combining speed and intuitiveness of use with the enormous versatility the Tilt offers seems to have, to date, eluded HTC.

It's funny, every smart phone I've looked at, including the iPhone, seems to incorporate at least one or two inexplicably dumb decisions. I suppose what I'm really doing is noticing, as a relative newcomer to smartphones, that there's no ideal device out there, and that every device comes with tradeoffs. . . and that one of the ways you exercise your taste in handheld devices is in deciding what tradeoffs you can tolerate.

    J.
  • When my contract is up, if there's a good deal when buying the phone, and if my Kaiser has worn out then why not. Otherwise, I'll be happy to stick with the Kaiser for as long as I can.
  • Rob
My big wishlist on a Tilt II would be a bigger battery, VGA with video out, and 3.5 MM jack. I think the tilting screen is an important form factor, and it will be a shame is it's the Touch Pro, unless they mod it to tilt the screen.
  • Eric
I also just renewed, so to defer the cost, let's have a little contest. One randomly drawn winner out of the next ten comments will have the privilege of buying me the Tilt II when it's released. Good luck!

Best idea as to what the third T in Doug's previous ATT&T comment will get special consideration.
  • KCMatt
I'm ready for a new phone. Seems like HTC devices start wearing out after about a year.

The Xperia is tops on my list, and I'm praying AT&T picks it up. I'm also praying Sony Ericsson puts a quality camera in it and fixes any of the issues HTC would have let go. (because it's actually manufactured by HTC)

    Looking forward to xperiasite.com!!!
  • Josh H
In my opinion a VGA screen alone would be reason enough to go with a new one. That's the only thing I don't really care for in the current Tilt.
  • Well, maybe I won't be first in line because ATT&T; would have noticed my hard work and sent me a pre-production unit to test! hahahahaha!
  • pfft first in line behind Doug?? Doug better watch his back cuz he isnt gonna be first in line for long LOL!

On a more serious note, to add on to the list, The camera needs to focus faster next time (maybe drivers will fix this). And I want the speaker phone on the front. There is nothing worse than whipping out my tilt to show off youtube mobile to my friends and you have to stand behind the screen to hear the sound. What were they thinking???
  • joe
assuming the dream doesn't have the same laughable shortcomings the tilt has, that's where i'm going
  • Brian
How could anyone give this company more money after all they put us (the consumer) through. We need to make a stand and not just turn another cheek to major corporations. I WANT MY DRIVERS!!!!
  • well.. considering I just renewed my contract a few months ago, I'm kinda screwed unless I pay full price.. or Doug buys me one for doing such great work on Tiltsite... ;)
  • You can't really be first in line if you're behind Doug.

    Just sayin'...
  • Here is my wish list for the next device:

    1) Larger 3.2- 3.5 VGA Screen with Video Out
    2) Intell Processor! PLEASE! With some Video Drivers
    3) Tilt screen. I love my website name! LOL
    4) The Touch Pro Keyboard! Awesome 5 Rows of goodness!
    5) 3.5mm Head Phone Jack Would be Nice
    6) 1900-2200 mAH Battery
    7) No AT&T; Bloat
    8) Front Facing Camera?

Those are some of my wish list items!
