8.9 Inch Lenovo Netbook On It’s Way

Buried in a press release about Lenovo tapping Taiwanese laptop maker Quanta Computer to manufacture its new series of netbooks, due for release in Q3/08 (AKA right around the corner) , I found some interesting clues as to the device specs
According to the PR, Lenovo will initially release two netbook models: a 8.9-inch and a 10-1-inch, both with Intel Atom processors. Ignoring the recent trend to SSDs, the netbooks will also feature a 160GB hard drive and come in four different chassis colors. Pricing will be set around US$399-599.
A 399 buck, 8.9 inch Lenovo netbook with a 160GB HD could be a very attractive option, depending on how the Dell E fares in the market. As Asus insists on spewing out more Eee models then I can list while keeping a straight face, and other vendors such as MSi continue to have trouble getting supplies into stores, let alone to customers. a decent Lenovo alternative at the right price point could do very well in a crowded market.
So are there ANY major laptop vendors that haven’t at least announced plans to produce a netbook yet? LG maybe…Toshiba…that’s about it, isn’t it? I need to find a scorecard.
