A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Ok, so apparently my little series on DVD Ripper software caught someone’s attention DSCF2275 as Aimersoft contacted us with a request to review their DVD Ripper software as well.

…and I’m very happy they did, it works and works well! The Aimersoft DVD Ripper software also includes some extra features as well so it does more than just rip DVDs.

So read on to learn more about Aimersoft DVD Ripper..

Here’s some quick info from their site about their DVD Ripper software, to read the full specs and feature you can visit their site HERE

Aimersoft DVD Ripper v1.8.0.4

Aimersoft DVD Ripper is professional DVD ripping software that help you copy DVD with 1:1 quality. With this best DVD Ripper software, you can easily rip DVD to AVI, MP4, WMV, MOV, MPG, MPEG, 3GP, 3GPP, MPG, ASF, FLV, VOB, WMA, M4A, MP3, etc. with super fast speed.

Aimersoft DVD Ripper is very popular in Europe. Now this DVD Ripping software is released in the USA, you can get it with $10 discount, only $35 (original price is $45).

Running the software you are greeted with an attractive and fairly easy to use 1 interface. Across the top is a small menu with basic options, under that is another menu with larger icons that access the main features. In the main window we see basic instructions on what to do to convert your DVD to your specific format. On the bottom is the main interface where you can select your format, and where you want to output the file to.

You’ve got quite a few choices when it comes to the output format of your DVD, so many I had to break it down into two pictures to show them all actually:

2 3

One thing very nice is that you can customize each output format to however you want it by just selecting from the drop down menus.5

To get started just pop your DVD in and hit ‘Load DVD’, once it’s loaded into the program you’ll have to choose what you want converted, obviously you’ll only want the movie so you’ll need to uncheck everything but the largest file.

4

There are three other features as well with Aimersoft DVD Ripper, once you load your 6 movie you can select from the top menu to makes changes like ‘Effects’ which let you change Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Effects like Gray Scale, Emboss, Negative and Old Film. You’ve also got the option to Deinterlace and adjust the output volume.

7 The second option is ‘Trim’, this is rather self-explanatory, you can trim certain parts of the movie out if you wish to, like cutting out the beginning and ending credits so you only have the main movie, this will also drop the overall size, but not by much really…

The third option is the ‘Crop’ ability, here you can custom crop the movie manually or 8 select options like cropping the black bars from the movie. You can also zoom in with options for ‘Keep Original’, ‘Full Screen’, ‘16:9′, and ‘4:3′. These are some nice features that really add to the value of this product.

9 If you’ve read my other reviews in this series then you’ll know I prefer AVI or Divx/XviD formats for my movies, they’re usually smaller and compatible with everything basically. For the sake of this review though I ran Aimersoft DVD Ripper twice, first with their option of ‘General Pocket PC Video’ which outputs to WMV format, and then again to the AVI format. The General PPC format was already set at 320×240, but I had to configure the AVI format from the default 640×480, not a big deal and easy to do.

Once you’re all ready just hit start, sit back and wait, the process is very quick and easy.10

So here’s a little bit of information about the ripping process for each format:

General Pocket PC (WMV)11

Time: 13:28

Size: 896MB

CPU Usage:

85% Peak

77% Average

Remember though I use a quad-core CPU so times will be slower on a dual core machine. A little over 13 minutes is very nice to convert an entire DVD to pocket PC format.

AVI/Divx Fomat12

Time: 21:37

Size: 1gig

CPU Usage:

42% Peak

35% Average

As you can see it took longer to convert the movie to AVI format, and the reason is obviously the use of the CPU which was fairly low compared to converting to WMV, why the software did it this way I’m not sure. Also you can see the output file is much larger as well, don’t quite understand that either..

Speaking of output files both formats were perfect, video was clear and sharp and audio was perfectly synced. The only drawback I can see is that the output files are pretty big so you’d better have a nice sized storage card, though you could possibly bring the size down by changing the configurations and doing a bit of cropping and trimming, but I can’t see getting it down too much more really.

I can easily give this software a 4.5 out of 5 score and I can honestly Recommend it as well to anyone looking for a very good program to convert DVDs to portable format and other formats as well.

Pros:

-Easy to use

-Works perfectly

-Includes other useful options

Cons:

-Output format is large compared to other ripping programs

I would like to thank Aimersoft for the chance to review their DVD Ripper Software and for their support of Tiltsite.
