It\'s is possible that the information within this article is now out of date or updated.

htcdownloadsiteHave you ever tried to download a ROM update or Software Download from HTC? You had to be a registered user and jump through  a lot of hoops to get to the download you wanted. Well HTC has updated their website and has made their content a lot easier to access with no registration being necessary! All you have to do is navigate to the support page. You will notice a different layout than before. Check it out:

STOP! Now before you get all excited (LIKE I DID) when you saw the ROM upgrade date of 2008-08-06, it is not a new ROM. It is the old version 1.62.502.0 dated from 01/17/08. They must have used the date they upgraded the download page on. Sorry to disappoint!

tilt_download_screenWhen you scroll to the bottom of the download page, you will see that HTC is only asking you to verify your device with two drop down boxes. How easy is that? After the two answers are entered the Download image comes to life and you can download the latest and greatest ROM or software from HTC. Now, I will answer the next question that I am going to be asked. I have no idea when AT&T/HTC will release Windows Mobile 6.1 Update to us. It is obviously late at this point. It would not surprise me now to see it rather quickly appear on the HTC website now that they have made it easier for US AT&T Tilt Customers to access HTC Content. Prior, HTC/US would not allow me to register my Tilt, saying I had to register it through AT&T.

Stay tuned, the ROM Update is sure to follow.

Thanks to Paul at MoDaCo for the HTC Website Tip!

    Here's the response I got:

    Hello Jim,

Thank you for your inquiry about the ROM Update for the AT&T Tilt.

We understand how important it is to have the latest ROM Update for your phone. The ROM Update Utility for the AT&T Tilt will be hosted on our website, htc.com, on the AT&T Tilt support page. We are waiting for AT&T to greenlight the release while they've been completing last minute testing. I'm sorry we don't have a more precise ETA, but we have expected the release for several weeks now, having had training, materials, and demo devices with the ROM update, and I believe you're going to be happy with the new features. Please check back on HTC.com from time to time, and if you need help installing the ROM, give us a call.

I hope we have answered your question in detail, Jim. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

I must be different because I never registered on the HTC site. I followed the link from ATT. I downloaded a WM6 update and the January update. I also waiting on the 6.1. I wanted to try flashing but it kinda confusing. Secondly I always have phone issues I need to be able to get my phone up and running quickly.

Just so you all know, it is possible for you to reflash the O.E.M. SPL for warranty purposes :) Dont let the whole warranty bit scare you.
  • Josh H
Darn you Doug! I've purposely kept away from the ROM threads on XDA recently. I am by nature a modder (be it cars, computers or my past cell phones) and it's hard not to do that. Once I'm out of warranty I'll be all over it.
  • Well thats okay too...

I felt funny the first time I flashed my first ROM, but after seeing the speed and stability the Chef's can get out of their ROMS, I'm hooked!
  • Josh H
Yes, I have. But I still know I voided the warranty. I'm funny like that. *sigh*
  • Have you checked out this post on XDA?

    Flash away!

I had just about the same experience this morning. I'm getting sick of waiting for this update, but I'm not quite ready to void my warranty and flash an unofficial ROMs.

I've heard all sorts of rumors. The last of which was that it would be available by the end of last month. Which was quickly updated to the middle of this month after the end of last month passed. :p
