Intel Increases SSDs Backing?

It\'s is possible that the information within this article is now out of date or updated.

Intel_ssd_3 This recently leaked Intel roadmap image indicates that the Intel/Micron partnership to improve SSD performance may finally be bearing fruit.  According to the roadmap, three new SSD models are coming from Intel, with the cream of the crop of the new X series managing screaming with speeds of up to 240MB read/170MB write!

The X series will come in both 2.5′ and 1.8′ sizes. X25-E is the flagship product in terms of performance. The X25-M and X18-M appear to focus more on power management and in active mode will only sip 0.25W.

Two sizes of the X25-E, 32GB and 64GB, and a 160GB X25-M are projected to enter the market in Q4/08. 80GB X25-M and X18-M models will appear in Q3/08 and a160G X18-M in Q1/09. No word on prices, but start saving now.

None of these leaks have been confirmed by Intel, but they certainly look right, and may indicate that Intel chipsets and motherboard designs will begin to push hard for SSDs to go mainstream, at least in high-performance laptops. This to me is a positive move, as I still feel that all that SSDs need to begin taking more chassis space from HHDs is major vendor backing and more reasonable prices. Intel can provide the first of those in spades. Perhaps in 09 we can see the prices start to drop?
