Mobile Anti-virus, a call for opinion

closeThis post was published 1 year 3 months 22 days ago.

That’s right, I’m asking your opinion.

virus What do you think internet?  Mobile Anti-virus, is it worth it?  If so, what do you use?

With all the applications out there and even more on the way, the amount, and sophistication, of viruses for Windows Mobile are bound to increase.  What do you guys think?

Remember this is for fun, so no flaming each other.

  • Mobile Antivirus = Marketing gimmick for morons, when mobile devices are 100% connected to the internet and there is something common between them (java?) then maybe, but still not...

The only virus I see are those damn 'text 12121 to 09090 to receive the coolest ring tones (then we will charge you up the ass)'

Nope, I'm not really concerned about it either. i always hook my Tilt up to a secure/protected computer, so I know and have a good feel for what I'm downloading and putting on my device.
  • Me either, I get monthly newsletters from Airscanner. But I will not worry about it until an outbreak actually occurs.
  • Honestly I'm not too worried about it, I'm fairly smart and I pretty much know what I'm doing at this point in time when it comes to downloading things, so until there's major outbreaks reported or viri on Windows Mobile I'm not to concerned and I'll wait till free AV software comes out, I've always used free stuff for my computers and installations on other people computers as well, they're just as good if not better than pay versions..

I don't yet use antivirus on my Tilt, but for that matter I have several PCs where I don't run Anti-virus either. It can suck up an aweful lot of resources, and being careful about what you download and install, or what sites you visit will keep you pretty safe. For me it's a safety vs. speed issue. Right now I need all the speed I can get so I'm willing to sacrifice safety.

Well considering that I can hard reset and rebuild my Tilt in a matter of about 30 minutes, I just don't see that it will save me anything. Plus it's not like I'm downloading from untrusted sites on my Tilt.

I'm sure at some point though, I will need to reconsider this stance.

I haven't found a need at this point. Once I hear of a virus that actually starts causing major problems with windows mobile, then it might be time...

I dont use it. If im careful about what i download i shouldent get a virius. that being said the first time i do get one i will probaly get a AV program.
