A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Dual Devices… How to Store them in your car…

Do you have more than one mobile device? Tired of putting them in the glove box, side console, or even in your brief case?

If you are like me you will most likely have more than one device, from your phone, iPod, GPS and much more, the biggest problem is where to store them when you are out driving.

clip_image002A while ago I did a review on ProClip USA’s In-Vehicle Device Mounting Solutions system that is adapted to your specific vehicle and device. The review was done with my Dell Axim X51v, however I recently I decided to update my Mobile device to the Motorola Q9h as I was not happy with a touch screen PPC Phone, I have also started using my iPod Touch more now in the car, and I was thinking how am I going to use these in my car and not upset my wife with all my gadgets floating around the car. So I decided to re-visit ProClip USA again as they truly met and exceeded my expectations before with a solution for my Axim, and see if they had a “Dual” system.

After looking at their site I found that they actually had device holder for both my Moto Q9h and the iPod Touch, now the plan is to have both devices in my car at the same time being powered. To do this I would need to use the Horizontal Extension Plate, set up was easy as in my first review, the mounting bracket clips in very easily. Once I have connected the Horizontal Extension Plate to the Mounting Bracket all I needed to do was attach the Tilt Swivel.

The Tilt Swivel

clip_image002[5]

The Tilt Swivel on the back of the Holder can tilt 15 degrees in any direction and swivel 360 degrees. The Tilt Swivel provides easy adjustment of your handheld’s position for better viewing, and extends the Holder from the Mount by 20mm / 0.78in. You can also adjust the Holder to avoid unnecessary light reflection. (The Holder shown in the picture to the left is attached to a demo ProClip Mount)

The Tilt Swivel Base Plate on the back of the Tilt Swivel can be attached to any flat surface or mounting bracket. The base plate comes with 6 pre-drilled holes; 2 holes in a centre line and 4 holes in an almost square like pattern to accommodate the AMPS whole pattern. Enclosed in the packaging are 4 self tapping screws and 4 machine screws with nuts. Dimensions of base plate: 50mm/1.96inches x 42mm/1.65inches. The 4 holes in the corners have a diameter of 0.5mm, and the self tapping screw holes in the centre have a diameter of 0.3mm.

Keep two devices on the same mount or use one at a time

clip_image005

If you have two devices you would like to have next to each other on your dashboard you may be able to have them on the same mount as shown in the General Picture to the left, by using our Horizontal Extension Plate.
You can also move a device/holder from car to car (mount to mount) or switch between two devices/holders on the same mount by using our Move Clip System. Please see the product category, Mounting Options, to the left to learn more about these options.

Motorola Q9h

With all the connections completed I was ready for the magic moment plugging in the devices, now with the Motorola Q9 holder it didn’t have the built in power supply so I had to get the cig power cable.

The Q9 fits perfectly, I was very surprised on how well it fitted. No scratching or pushing the device hard in. If I require it to be charged I have my Cig Charger and on the holder there is a hole cut out for the power adapter to fit in.

The iPod Touch was again similar to the Q9 fits well into the holder, the actual holder has a soft velvet coating, which protects the device.

The device holder has a power supply connected to a USB cig charger so it can power other USB devices.

Overall, I was very impressed with both device holders, again the material and parts were in my view very well made.

It has Arrived…

clip_image011The day the items arrived, it was like Christmas, if you haven’t been to New Zealand or know (Google it – we are at the bottom of the World or close to it) where it is, then a bit of info is required.

We are 12 hours flight from LA, and 27 hours from London, both my Wife and I were taken back again how fast the delivery of the items were from ProClip.

clip_image015

Both devices connected to their holders, looks great next step is to actually connect them to the Car Mounting bracket.

Once I had connected both the device holders to the horizontal plate I was surprised on the gap between both devices as it really works, they are not too close to be hard to use and not too far apart to take up excess room.

The horizontal plate and the car mounting bracket, as you can see they work really well together making both devices easy to use and compact, which in the ending my wife was happy about.

Here is a photo of how my car actually looks from the driver’s side.

My Thoughts

Ok, again I was skeptical that a dual device holder would work in regards to the size, when compared to the single device , however I was proved wrong so be it, I like to be proved wrong now and then and in this case it was for the better.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product to any gadget loving person out there, don’t just take my view for it read on…

My Wife’s Thoughts

When my husband decided to get the iPod Touch and then the Motorola Q9 I thought here it goes again more junk for the car, however this time I was rescued by ProClip’s in car system.

I may be married to gadget freak, I still like to have a neat & tidy car, sometimes that’s hard with all the gadgets (and kids).

I would also recommend it as well not just for gadgets but even your mobile phone…

Another factor is the price, in our view it was a very cost effective way to store multiple devices in our car yet make it easy to access them and power them.

  • Hi guys,
The ProClip product is fantastic. So much so that we have been the exclusive distributors for Australia, New Zealand and Singapore for Brodit (the manufacturer in Sweden) since 2000.
We were not able to use "ProClip" down here, as the name had already been registered, so the product is rebadged as ClicOn in our markets.
It has been a challenge to build a new brand for a product that already has a great reputation with its original name, but we are doing it proud.
I just wanted to make you aware of www.holdmyphone.com.au so that you may consider buying "locally" in future.
    Best regards,
    Robin

Hi guys, this also happens alot here in New Zealand, and when I had the Window mounted system I had to keep taking it down because of the same reason theft, but in saying that alot of people over here still leave their mounting brackets in their cars (some even leave their devices in the car also...) in the open.

However I have found that in my case with the Proclip version it is further down on my console that it is hidden from plain view, and with most cars having up to 3 clip areas then not all are going to be that out in the open.

I also find it is easier to take off my Proclip version then my old windscreen one it always seemed to leave a mark on the windscreen were the suction cup was...

Cheers Guys thanks for the feed back.

You're not paranoid - in my area, Police are reporting higher incidence of car break-ins due to empty device "cradles" - the thieves assume the "missing" device is in the glove box, center console, under the seat, etc. and break-in to find the device.
  • ProClip mounts certainly aren't the least expensive of device mounts, but they are excellent and well tailored for many vehicle types. A couple months ago I got a mount for my Advantage and I love it, especially its rotational adjustability. Downside is that I wish I could more easily remove portions of the mount so that when my vehicle is sitting in a parking lot it doesn't advertise my having a mobile device/gps, but maybe I'm just being a bit paranoid.
