Skyfire Open to Everyone, For Now…

I saw over at WM Poweruser that Skyfire has opened the doors for a short time to everyone to use their browser.

On the eve of the Olympics, we added Silverlight support to Skyfire, meaning that Skyfire users can watch any ofthe 2200+ hours of Olympics coverage provided by NBC on their mobile phones. To celebrate Michael Phelps’s monumental accomplishment of winning 8 Gold metals in a single Olympic games, today we have released a special code “Michael8” which will give new users access to Skyfire and the games (and the full PC web). Spread the code “Michael8” to your friends and let them part take in these historic games on the go.

The code will only be valid from the 18th to the 30th August, so readers will have to move fast to take advantage of this advanced browser and finally experience the Real Web on their mobile devices.

I'm having the same problem as John on my iPaq w/WM5.0. Any hints on how to fix that? The website says pda w/o phone are not supported yet... :(

    Al,

How did you get your Axim handheld to work with Skyfire? I installed Skyfire on my HP iPAQ 111 Classic Handheld and I get this error message when I try to run Skyfire: "The file "Skyfire" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring ths file." I've tried resinstalling Skyfire several times, but I keep getting the same =error message. Thankd for any help.

Axim is working for me. I am sure it will work with any pocket PC connected through WiFi. I used my non smart phone number to sign up. They sent me the SMS message with the download link. I copied the link by hand in to my Axim browser. I was able to download the program into my Pocket PC. Skyfire thinks I am using a smart phone with Windows CE 5.
The program seems to work much slower in my Axim than my TMobile MDA. I have been using Skyfire for a few months now on my MDA. It is great for watching new movies with OVGuide. Perhaps too many users are making the system slower. Skyfire is available to many more users and since the browsing is taking place in Skyfire servers, traffic, I am sure will make the system slower.
I though my Axim with a faste processor and a much better screen would be much nicer.

Oh well nothing is perfect, specially with a free product and in beta testing.

Would be nice if they allowed Axim usage since according to their FAQ it'd work on a WIFI PDA, but they seem to only allow phone PDAs to download the app... =(
