Apple iPhone Vs AT&T Tilt Comparison Review

tilt No no… it’s not my review. Even though I have both, there is no reason to compare the two. Different markets, different style users. Either way, there are good and bad points for each of the for sure.  Since the iPhone 2.0 software launch, I have been going back and forth depending on the day. Mainly, the days I want to check out a new iPhone app, I throw iPhone in my pocket. Yes, I don’t use cases on any devices. :)

The weaknesses of the feature-rich iPhone are in the way of the basic, essential functions of a smartphone – call quality and speed of the data network. Even though the AT&T Tilt uses the same EDGE data network as the iPhone, the Tilt has a wider array of wireless options available, including access to the 3G network, a feature the current generation of iPhone’s cannot claim (though a 3G iPhone is reportedly in the works). Also, according to a perusal of online customer feedback, the Tilt also boasts superior call quality over the iPhone. Having said that, however, the iPhone has up to 480 minutes of talk-time whereas the max talk time on the AT&T Tilt is only about half that.

In the way of features, the digital camera on the AT&T Tilt is 3.0 megapixels while the iPhone’s is only 2.0 megapixels. The Tilt includes a GPS but the iPhone does not. The call history on the Tilt is more substantial, indicating talk time duration and other details not available in the iPhone’s call history. Likewise, the Tilt displays a distinction between calls received and calls made whereas the iPhone does not. The processor on the AT&T Tilt is significantly slower than that of the iPhone, with a much higher tendency to freeze up and necessitate a reboot. The iPhone has a much larger built-in storage capacity (at 4-8 GB) while the AT&T Tilt can only hold 128 MB.

If you are still unaware of the power of the AT&T Tilt, head over and check out the complete comparison.

UPDATE: It seems that this article is a bit dated. That will teach me to read rss feeds driving down the road. Wow. Re-reading it, I have to agree, this seems to have been written prior to the 3G iPhone. I was just happy to see someone comparing the Tilt to the iPhone. The tilt is in a league of it’s own and to be compared to the Tilt is something that doesn’t happen often. The author does have some good points. – Adding this to the post as an update.

  • Er, how out of date is this now that the iPhone 3G has been out for two months? And the review you link to looks like it's on some kind of spam blog that scrapes content from other sites, adding their own random internal links and ads.
  • I'm not a user of the iPhone and love my Tilt, but this comparison doesn't help very much since a lot of the points that are being made apply to the first gen iPhone. Battery life, call quality, data speed and gps are all things that have been updated and fixed in the 3G iPhone that was released in July.
