November 7, 2009 – 9:36 pm | Comments

A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Tiltsite.com – Stay or Go?

Posted by Chris Leckness on September 17, 2008 – 10:54 am
closeThis post was published 1 year 1 month 19 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.

My previous post indicated that I have been considering just shutting this blog down, but I have decided to keep it going since there is a good readership and the Tilt will be around for quite a while. It’s still a great device despite the rumor that AT&T might EOL it soon. Anyhow, I decided to get a better indication without “guessing”.

Just for the record, the reason I am thinking about this today is the rush job mistakes I made today and the nasty email I got from some disgruntled reader today.

    Chris,

I definitely think you should keep Tilt Site going, both as a reader and a contributer, I find this site to be a great place for tips and help. I had planned to contribute more than I have and do plan to publish part two of the how to custom rom guide, but life and a flooded basement have hindered things. That plus the difficulty of finding items on topic do make it hard post regularly. Any how, Keep up the great work Chris,
    Kris

Whats there to be disgruntled about? Everybody poops, shit happens.

    Keep up the great work
  • Chris, maybe you should rename it HTC Site? I think it's a great site, and with the plethora of new HTC devices you should just expand your focus a bit.
  • AdamNimrod
One of the many things I like about this site is even thought its clearly jolted at the Tilt/Kaiser, you still bring good reports about other high tech phones... so your not totally biased on the Tilt and you still give us insight about other possibilities.

    KEEP IT GOING!!!
  • Chris
Thanks for all the positive comments and overwhelming response to the poll. I guess it's a no brainer at this point :)

    Thanks!
  • bmuthagoose
I would like to see it keep going, at least until the Tilt is gone for a while.

But more importantly, do what is best for you. This site has given me useful tips, hints, and overall information. I would hate to see it go, but I understand all the work it must take you. Whatever you do I (we) will understand and support you.
  • Proto732
Keep it going, definitely. It is nice having a site specific to my device and not having to wonder if the wm hacks/tips will work on my device.

Even though the tip wasn't Tilt specific ... it was a good tip. I also have a BlackJack2 ... and I never knew how to change the device name.

DON'T SHUT THIS SITE DOWN!!! About 3 months ago, I discovered this site, and although I knew how to install .cab files and used my device somewhat, I was a somewhat clueless tilt user, and I knew nothing of the driver issues, or of cooked ROMs and the XDA developers. In the 3 months I have used this site, I check it every day to see what amazing thing I can learn about the tilt or what killer software has just been released. At least 50% of my tilt's software was at one point recommended by you! This site is by far the most rich resource for the AT&T tilt, and I cannot thank this community enough for its helpfulness!
  • rick
Keep it going! Don't let the haters get you down. You don't have to update it every day. Twice or once a week is better than nothing.
  • rich
I have seen it happen so often..someone starts a forum...a bunch of nice people show up..then one or 2 disgruntled sociopaths start posting or sending nasty little notes to the moderator and every thing breaks down.. don't let it happen here. Pull out the weeds so the rest of the garden can thrive.

This is one of the websites I check daily. Keep it up especially if there may be those in the readership who want to help. I am still a newbee but this site has helped me understand, maintain and customize my Tilt. This website is why I do not have an iphone which is very overated. Keep up the good work.
  • Before i found this site,I knew nothing compared to what you have taught me. This is my second PPC,I have been reading XDA etc. for 3 years,Just couldnt get through it.Thank you for your help.Keep going if you can. But I also agree with the above post. Go outside and play!

This is one of the few sites I've seen where a question is greeted with an INTELLIGENT answer versus an instant flame war. Keep it going. Even if its one post a week telling us work sucks, and that you hardly use your Tilt.
  • Bryan
I suprised you are even asking, of coarse your efforts have helped us all, but my vote is to fold it's content into your other websites. I'll follow the other sites just as I'm sure others will also.
Take it from somebody who owns and operates 3 companies, go out and ply ball with your kids. My youngest son justed started his second year in collage and I'm not even sure what he is studying.
There is still hope for me though, my oldest grand daughter made her school volleyball team, I think I'll go lose my voice.

    Shutting of the computer now.

i love what you guys are doing here

Whoever sends nasty emails to people that are trying to give something to the community, need to get hit by a bus and then dragged for a few hundred miles while still alive. I say thanks for the site and if it doesn't screw up your life keep it going. Thanks for the effort either way. Vroom vroom oh no here comes that bus better watch out!
  • Kip Granson
I would vote to keep it going too, and I'm hoping to be more regular with posting articles... I was shooting for 1 or 2 a week, but man, work has been a bear lately, and that's when I do my best thinking/surfing :-) I would rather post less frequently with a higher quality than to force something.

Coming from someone that is supposed to be writing for tiltsite, I will admit to one thing.. it's difficult to keep on topic of 'tilt only' articles. That being said, I've decided that it's OK to write things that are not just tilt related, but win-mo related also... and I think that's good for this site, otherwise you're gonna run out of things to write about.

The tilt isn't an iphone... it runs on an OS that's made for a myriad of devices, so articles that address other devices will likely address the tilt also right, there's obviously some overlap with MobilitySite though, but that's alright too, maybe some non-tilt specific articles should overlap.

but as I said, I think it should continue, i think the low volume is fine, as long as it's of decent quality.

I'd love to volunteer to take over or help with the administration of the site, but I just don't have the time to help you out Chris...
  • Steve
    I love this site.
I'm sure there are many others that would morn the loss of such an informative site.
  • I would say keep it going too, but then again technology comes and goes, so I expected to end...

So do what is right your you and your lifestyle, if it is too much of a headache to keep up, then maybe it is best to move one, especially considering you don't use the tilt much anymore, and if you don't use the tilt much, you lose passion for the device which in result causes posts to become less frequently or informative...

In other words, keep it up if YOU want, but if not we (or maybe just I) understand and look forward to your next project.

Now then... where is that mpx220 site...
  • JASON PARKER
Keep it going if you can. Personally, for me, this site has been a learning tool. Roms, Cab files, Beta, and a host of other terms were all foreign to me 4 months ago. I'm even reading blogs and responding to threads. I APPRECIATE the time put into this site and all the COOL things coming off this site. Thank You!
  • AdamNimrod
I think the massive 'keep it going' option pretty much says it all.

    It's a no-brainier.
  • David
Keep it going. I have to agree with everyone else, it's Tilt specific. I say keep it going and post the nasty email up on the site for everyone to comment on...
  • Zach
Keep it going. Forget about the one a**hole who obviously takes this for granted and doesn't realize the time involved to maintain something like this for free.
  • Please stick around. As a Tilt user, there are a severe lack of quality sites around that talk about it. You're doing great!
  • I agree, keep it going -- a few tilt specific news every once and a while is better than none!
  • Jeff D.
My vote is to keep it open, but I am a biased Tilt user! :) I would suggest that you not listen to ONE angry emailer when making this decision.
  • Scott M
    Keep it going!

dont let the comments from one sourpuss bring you down!
  • Keep it going.

You have a niche, there's no need to "build an audience" with the rush to keep posting things.

This isn't Mashable or Techmeme. And I'm not going there or Engadget looking for info on the Tilt.

Usually, the only people who slam website operators are people who don't operate websites.

No pressure... but keep this going. I'd rather have three quality news items in my RSS feed every two weeks than nothing.
