tiltthumb If somehow you have yourself an unlocked Tilt or the HTC TYTN II and you want to use it on T-Mobile, the following info from T-Mobile’s support site should get you online.

One of our readers was told by T-Mobile that the Tilt WOULD NOT work on their network. I think that rep just didn’t want to help our friend along.

Read on for the steps…

A. Creating a CSD connection

To create a CSD connection, perform the following steps:

1.  Open the Main Menu and select Start.

2. Go to Settings.

3. Select the Connections tab.

4. Select the Connections option in the Connections tab.

5. Select Internet Settings.

6. Select Modify.

7. Select the Modem tab.

8. Select New.

9. Enter a name for your connection. For example: ISP Connection.

10. From the Modem drop-down menu, select your modem type from the following:

  • Cellular Line (NOT GPRS): using the phone service
  • Hayes Compatible on COM1: using an external modem connected by a cable
  • Generic IrDA Modem: using a modem card

NOTE: To access the Internet without using the Voice Stream phone service, use an external modem or install a modem card. To connect an external modem, use a NULL modem cable and appropriate adaptors.

11. Type the ISP dial-up access phone number. Obtain this information from your local Internet service provider (ISP).

NOTE: If your ISP requires a static IP or specific DNS settings, from Connections, under the Advanced tab, select TCP/IP. Type the static IP address. Select Name servers, and then type the specific DNS address. Tap OK, and then tap Next.

12. From CONNECTION, under Internet Settings, select Modify.

13. To set the default connection, from the Modem tab, click and hold the desired connection. Select ALWAYS DIAL, and then select OK.

14. From Internet Settings, select CONNECT. Type your ISP user name and password. To automatically connect next time, select Save password.

B. Creating a GPRS connection

To create a GPRS connection, perform the following steps:

1. Open the Main Menu and select Start.

2. Go to Settings.

3. Select the Connections tab.

4. From the Connections tab, select Connections.

5. From the first drop-down menu, select New.

6. From the My Connection screen, select the Modem tab.

NOTE: For ease of identification, rename My Connection to T-Mobile Internet.

7. Select New.

8. Type a name for the connection, such as T-Mobile Internet.

9. From the Modem drop-down menu, select Cellular Line (GPRS).

10. Set BAUD to the highest setting (115200). Tap NEXT.

11. At Access Point name, type the appropriate APN:

  • Standard connections: internet2.voicestream.com
  • VPN connections: internet3.voicestream.com

NOTE: For the correct APN, consult Samson SOC.

12. Tap Finish.

13. Select the Proxy Server tab. Select This network connects to the Internet and This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet. Within the Proxy Server text box, type getmorespeed.t-mobile.com.

14. Tap Advanced. Within the Port text box, change 80 to 8080, and then tap OK.

15. Tap OK. From the When needed, automatically connect to the Internet using these settings drop-down menu, select T-Mobile Internet.

Disclaimer – I don’t use T-Mobile so I can’t guarantee these settings, but I was told that they should.

for anyone looking for the settings using the 5.99 t-zones plan.

    start>settings>connections

    then tap connections

go to set up proxy server

check box that sais "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet"

then in the proxy server type 216.155.165.50 ( you might want to highlight and copy because you will be using this setting 3 more times)

    now tap advanced

tap HTTP (if the server is not filled out paste the proxy settings in the step above in the server box) and change port from 80 to 8080 then hit ok.

tap WAP then paste or type the same proxy server (216.155.165.50) the port should automatically say 9201
leave this as is then hit ok

tap secure wap and paste or type in the server settings from the last 2 steps. the port should say 9203 leave as is as well hit ok

tap Socks and clear the server, the port should go away. then hit ok

go to general tab and edit. enter any name you want here. (tmobile data) the box underneath should read cellular line (GPRS,3G) if not then make sure you change to this setting. hit next

access point name: wap.voicestream.com hit next.

clear all fields then hit finish. hit X 3 times to get back to home screen and reboot (soft reset)

go to IE type google in the search bar and see if it works.

well hope this helps. and remember this only costs 5.99 a month with tmobile, you cant beat that!!

    update
contacted tmo and after getting to ech support deep enough to understand the issues we found that for suncom user all data must stay the same...but there were slight changes made to some ports and IP's which caused glitches. suncom users can't use ttmo configurations...yet so if you having problems don't configure tmo stay with suncom.
  • thanks
I'm the reader who posted this question and I'm glad you took the time to post a response Chris (THANK YOU). Anyway I'm going to follow the directions above and give t-mobile a call to add the internet back on my phone because I had them take it off when it didn't work. I'll update my comment once they add it back on AND IT WORKS.

I've been using my Tilt on T-Mobile for at least 6 months now.

When I switch over, the girl at the store called up tech support and they walked me thru all the settings I had to change. I haven't any problems, and the price for unlimited internet access plus 300 minutes per month sure beats AT&T's.

I use my tilt on tmo. all I do is change my access point to wap.voicestream.com mms is a little more complicated, but getting the internet is as simple as changing that address. also, I only use the cheapest data plan and tether and surf with no problems or questions. MMS seems to be a lot slower to download than it should be, but otherwise fine. sad to find out the other day that I won't be able to get TMO 3G on the tilt ever...
  • I had used my unlocked Tilt with suncom and only had to identify the Access Point. Never had an ounce of problems with internet access until T-Mo took them over. Good thing the suncom ap still works because none of the t-mo ap's work. Same with the set up above...doesn't work with my AT&T tilt running wm6.
  • Also, you can use HTC Connection Wizard. Install on Device, reboot, and then select it from the settings menu if it doesn't run automatically.

    Works great.
