Zealot just let us know that the Zune 3.0 software is Available NOW, so do you like the $1 menu at McDonald’s?  How does getting FREE Wi-Fi at McDonalds sound as you scoff down that Double Cheeseburger?  Sounds good to me and I think it will sound great to a lot of folks.  Today, along with the Zune 3.0 software there it is a deal for Zune owners to get free Wi-Fi access at McDonald’s.

According to CNET News,  Wayport (the Wi-Fi provider for McDonalds) will be making it very easy for Zune users to access music on the go by providing Wi-Fi that does not have a browser interrupt.  So when you get that new software for your Zune, head over to McDonalds, grab a burger and enjoy the FREE Wi-Fi!

Well, I think I'd rather hang out at a Starbucks than at a McDonalds, McDonalds make their restaurants just comfortable enough for a quick meal; Starbucks is just the opposite.

I think it really says something about the marketing mindsets and the target audiences of both MS and Apple that Zune offers an agreement with MickeyD's and iPhone/iPod offers one with Starbucks.

Of course, what that something they are saying might be, I am not sure yet.

Good news for Zune users. This is one area where the iPod Touch has a huge advantage over the Zune - because it has a browser, it can get through a browser license agreement so other apps/functions can access the net through a WiFi hotspot.

This is where the Zune team should go next - some sort of rudimentary browser to help you get through such restrictions.
