Looks like a company called Orange Gadgets is making a little add on that should make iPhone and Touch users with jailbroken phones quite happy. Engadget seems a bit skeptical about this company, so be cautious.

Included with the GPS module is a 6ft USB-A to micro USB-B cable for on-the-go or at home charging. With this cable you will be able to charge your iPhone or iPod touch while the module is plugged into your handheld device. A suitable USB car charger, USB wall charger or USB desktop/laptop port is required for this functionality (not included).

The price of the module will be $75.00 + shipping and this price includes the USB cable.  We are currently gearing up for full-scale production of the module. You can sign up for one on our pre-order list here.

Well, as you need jailbreak for this to work, you can just use OfflineMaps.app to get the google maps offline.

Actually, the download of maps over EDGE is not that bad. Now over GPRS it's definitely not as fast as the Blackberry, but it's usable if in "highway" view and not "street" level. There's, of course, no problem over Wifi.

There is currently no Sat Nav software available for the iPhone, only Google Maps. As the 1st Gen iphone has no 3G coverage, and Google Maps requires data to be constantly downloaded, I can't imagine this little device being that usable when the software available is so crap. It's bad enough driving along using Google Maps on a 3G network, waiting for the little squares to download and appear, I can't imagine what it would be like on a 1st Gen iPhone.
