A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Is this why the HTC Touch HD isn’t Coming to the US?

htct8290I am in agreement with most of the others out there about the HTC Touch HD. I would have loved seeing it come to the US as well. We did get the 1st HTC Powered Android phone in the US though, the T-Mobile G1. Could another 1st from HTC be coming to us here in the US too?

Could HTC be working on a Wimax phone that is very similar to the Touch HD? It appears so. It is pure speculation that we might actually see this here, but here’s to hope. Nedge2k via BGR shared a photo late last week of a leaked photo of what they are calling the HTC T8290 or the HTC Quartz.

Some specs:

  • 3.8″ 800×480 WVGA LCD
  • GSM+WiMax
  • 802.11g WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0

What you’re looking at is an image of a WiMAX-enabled HTC Touch, the T8290. Details are sketchy at best, but it’s looking like this thing is loaded to the teeth with a massive 3.8″ 480 x 800 WVGA display, WiMAX + GSM, 802.11g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and video calling capabilities. It would be nice to see a phone like this hit Sprint’s XOHM network as a sort of peace offering for our missing out on the Touch HD, but word is this device is going to the Ruskies on Yota first (that is, if we ever see it at all).

According to the post on Nedge2k, this phone is due out in Russia soon, but we can hope for a US appearance, right?

HTC is almost there. Big HD screen, 5mp camera, U.S. 3G, WiMax, internet streaming video access, faster processor, more memory ........ now, the last two items ...... 1) LED Flash for camera and 2) Keyboard. I would buy it with the flash and no keyboard and be willing to give up to $1000.00 USD unlocked, but, would prefer 5-Row QWERTY also. I think North and South American business people would be more than willing to pay that price for a phone with those features and performance, and it goes without saying, Europeans.
