It\'s is possible that the information within this article is now out of date or updated.

wm65 It’s no secret that Microsoft is working on Windows Mobile 7 now. It’s also been put out there by 3rd parties that Microsoft is “behind” on WM7. Last I checked, Microsoft (not one of their vendors) has never given the world a date for WM7 anyhow, so who cares.

Either way, Moto CEO, Sanjay Jha, let the cat out of the bag that there is possibly something between 6.1 and 7.0 on the way. Windows Mobile 6.5 Anyone?

“Windows Mobile 6 has not delivered the experience that I think Apple has been able to deliver, but as you look at the plan that Windows Mobile 7 and even 6.5, I think there are significant new added features which will help the platform.”

The story states that a Motorola handset sporting “Windows Mobile 6.5″ will be released in the second half of 2009. More as we get it on this. We know nothing about this OS, so it’ll be interesting to see what develops.

Of course, this is rumor and you shouldn’t get too excited, but we shall see.

Last I checked, Microsoft (not one of their vendors) has never given the world a date for WM7 anyhow, so who cares.

A lot of people. I don't see why Microsoft's schedules matter to when we want something. :D

Consider it this way. Suppose you loaned me $100, and I promised to pay it back. If you run into me next month and I tell you that I never gave you a specific date to pay you back, would you be OK with that?

The fact is that there have been leaks about WM 7, at least one vendor made comments about its availability, and we can see how people are saying WM has lost its advantage compared to the iPhone and Android.

So it does matter. But, if it only matters what Microsoft says, why did you post this? ;)

Either way, Moto CEO, Sanjay Jha, let the cat out of the bag that there is possibly something between 6.1 and 7.0 on the way.

There had been rumors of something well before Jha made his comments, except that was WM 6.2. I assumed it would basically include IE Mobile 6.

So now I wonder if we're going to have 6.2, 6.5 and 7 or just 6.5 and 7.

Well, based on all previous experiences with MS operating systems, desktop and mobile, it will be a bloated OS that runs slowly on existing hardware and provides no major increase in functionality, rendering some of our older software useless in the process.
