Thanks Zealot! Truly appreciate the input. I'll take it off my gadget collection.

Funny, here I've had my 4700 for 4 years, and it still is my best bet for decent quality handheld video. Incredible.

From what I've heard the much ballyhoo'ed Cowon and Q5 also choke on too many video formats. That leaves only Archos now. I tried the previous generation 605 and it was a disappointment. We'll see how the new Archos 5 does.

gylman...first test shows that the device automatically converts down to the lower resolution on sync. What's more, it doesn't even see files that aren't in .avi, so I needed to convert an mp4 to avi first using another app, THEN had the iRiver software convert it to the proper resolution while syncing. Total turnaround to get a very small Iron Man onto my Spinn - 2+ hours. Shellhead would not be happy. First video impression is that quality was acceptable for the size, but sure not up to a 4700. If you are looking for a pocketsized video player first and foremost, this may not be your first choice. I will test some more to see. At least the sync was pretty intuitive...more on that later.

Ben - word is that a 16G version is coming, with a rumor of 32G in the future...so you may be in luck.

I’m a huge fan of Iriver and have been constantly upgrading my Iriver players every time they come out with something hot and new. I started off with the Iriver 899 1GB moved on to the T10 2GB from there the Clix 4GB then the Iriver Clix second generation 8GB. I would love to get the Spinn but I need at least a 16GB to help me. My Iriver Clix 8GB is almost full so getting the Spinn will not help me unless the up the capacity. I hope they will in the near future as I would be all over the Spinn.

As usual, can't buy this in Canada. Too bad, looks like a good one for the gadget collection.

One question re: the video. Does it automatically play higher-res video without difficulty? Or do we have to encode everything to 480x272.

I have become accustomed to 640x480 on my HX4700, and I'm thinking this will be a step down... can you compare the video quality to looking at the same video on a true VGA handheld?
