It would be nice to hear a review from someone who is in the workforce. No offense but you are retired correct. Your use pales in comparison to someone who would use it in a real business environment. This review is great for a casual user, but not for the power user.

I don't have this phone yet. I read that the wifi works better if you download Opera as the browser. Would that conceivably resolve the wifi problem addressed in this review?

well as for missed calls I use Bluetooth. Always a ring there and why put your pocket PC up to your ear too much skin oil on screen(gross). as far as special cord/adapters they come with the phone. The issue I have come across is it is hard to find a case to protect it while caring it. Well I have the phone and I love it. You did it justice ;)

Thank you very much for this review! It is by far the most detailed and descriptive I've found online. In particular I was pleased to see you mentioned the ability to turn off the haptic vibe response to the touchscreen being touched. It was a setting I was curious about on my own, and probably the first thing I was going to change about the phone, other than menu style, etc.

I also noticed you paired the GPS to your external GPS. I was hoping to get a review of the onboard GPS itself. Does it work for google maps out of the box? Is it true GPS or the aGPS that first looks at cell-tower triangulation and then gives coordinates?

Two basic, yet HUGE problems with the EPIX. 1) Notifications (sounds & blinking light) for missed calls/txts/emails do NOT obey the settings... they don't work. 2) The Ringer is fixated on "increasing ring" even though you can "change" it to something else. You end up missing many calls because by the time the ring volume is audible, the call is forwarded to voicemail. Thus, I give the EPIX a 2.5 out of 5... because even though all of the high-end features of the phone seem to work perfectly, I am ultimately displeased and disatisfied that "they" left out the BASICS.

The Work setting? No, this is my first pocketpc device and I have no idea what that does. I configured it so all connections are to the Internet.

Thanks for that comment Kevin. I did try that along with a few other "fixes" that others found worked for them ... no luck at all.

I'm assuming that you chose the WORK setting when using WiFi ... correct?

Like you, I had Pocket IE refuse to work over wifi, and spent quite some time with customer support trying to work it out. In the end they were useless and I found the answer on the forums: Go to Settings/Connections/Proxy Manager and tick the "Do not use a proxy server" box.

AT&T ships the device configured with IE always using a proxy server. That proxy server is only accessible through cell data, not your wifi. Stop using the proxy server and IE will be functional over wifi, but you won't be able to access any of the AT&T-specific media services that have URLs like "device.home".

Great review, lots of detail and a real-world perspective on living with a device. Regarding the WiFi issue, I've seen this on other WM devices trying to use IE -- you have to leave the cellular data connection on in order to use WiFi. I'm not sure if it's a design issue or more for operators to monitor on-net vs. off-net data usage. Anyway, I just gave up in my previous encounters, left cellular data connection in place and used WiFi.

I would note that Symbian 60 lets you browse exclusively on WiFi, no problem. iPhone seems to work more like WM on this by requiring cellular data on for WiFi browsing, though it will let you shut off 3G (drops down to GPRS/EDGE). Anyway, unless you're trying to keep ATT from seeing your url history, it's not really a big deal. Yeah, it's problematic for "private" browsing, but there's really no privacy anyway. Just use the WiFi with cellular data on.
