A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Did you get any Mobile Tech for Christmas?

image Me? No. All I got were snacks(peanuts and gift baskets), University of Alabama clothing, and gift cards, but I can head over to Best Buy and Circuit City and get something nice. What about you? What did you get for Christmas? Anyone get a new phone or PDA? A Netbook?

I bought my daughter a red Zune 80 to replace her green Zune 8 and Rock Band for the Wii for Christmas. My son got a ton of Wii games, Legos, and a couple remote controlled vehicles. My son also got an extra surprise in his room too…

My son also got an old Wii since I repaired both of them Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, the current Wii in our den stopped reading disks. This is the 3rd Wii that has done this. The 1st one, we returned to Nintendo and they replaced it. The 2nd one did the same thing 3-4 months later. I decided to just buy the kids a brand new one. Then Christmas Eve, it happened again. Knowing that a bulk of my kids gifts revolved around the Wii, I had to do something. I just took a stab in the dark and shove alcohol soaked Qtips into the disk slot in hopes of hitting  and cleaning the optics that read the disks. The Qtips came out dirty, so I felt I was doing something good. Well, I plugged it back in and what do you know, it worked and has been working since. I did the same with the 2nd Wii too and put it in my son’s room. Nice!

I ordered my Hanukkah gift for myself before the holidays because Lenovo finally had their 10.2" WinXP available after many months delay. Finally! I ordered it immediately, not thinking that the 3 cell battery would not be enough, nor limited memory or hard disk. This was a real baby, not the toy that the 8.9" ones that were around all through the year. Right after I ordered it, Acer came out with a more powerful unit for $50 less, then HP's mini-note came out with more/better....
Ah, so it goes with technology.
But it is a great holiday for me, I love my fire engine red 2 lb internet joy. This is one of the few times that less is more. Lightweight on my lap, on the sofa, in bed, in the dining room. If you think I was addicted to my internet favorites before, Now I can view Mobility site from every room in the house. HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!!

My family knows better than to buy me mobile tech; my son made it quite clear that he did not want us to buy him an xbox 360 as he is saving his own money to buy it himself. My daughter gave us a very modest list, said that she had more than enough "stuff", and wanted us instead to buy gifts from the school's community giving tree to give to unfortunate children in our regional district's three towns. (She spent about $400 doing so.)

I did get some mobile tech - though perhaps not what you are thinking. My wife and kids bought me some YakTrax Pro traction devices that I could use on my running shoes to get good traction when it's snowy and icy out.

The only mobile thing I got was a Jawbone...and I'm loving it. I talked with my wife while watching The Dark Knight on my new blu-ray player with the volume cranked...and she only heard me!
  • My sweetheart bought me a new stereo bluetooth headset, which replace a similar set that have worn out from lots of use.

I got her an eeepc 1000h. She's kind of thriiled, though she never uses a pc. Still, we'll see how much she uses it. I even found an eeepc for dummies book to help her get started. :-)

For Hanukkah my 4yo recieved his 1st DS w/ several games and my 11yo recieved numerous Wii and DS games (too many to remember, including Guitar Hero World Tour. Needless to say, they are both very happy. Take some pity on me because, unlike Christmas, I still have 3 more nights of gift giving left. Hey at least I recieved a new iPaq 211 to replace my 2nd now deceased x51v(victim of a fall from the hood of my work vehicle). Ouch! But hey I treated myself to an Otter Box 1900 case for the iPaq. The case already paid for itself as the iPaq, while in the case, took a tumble to the kitchen floor. Not a scratch or dent. Works perfectly.

BTW, if anyone is in need of an indestructable case backed by GREAT customer service, I highly recommend giving your business to Otter Box. The 1900 is a "universal" case, designed to fit most PDAs. Unfortunately the attached screen saver that comes w/ the case is very hard to press on the edges due to gap between the iPaq screen and the case's screen saver. So when I e-mailed Otter Box customer service re: whether their custom screen saver for the 4" iPaq 4700 screen would also fit my iPaq 211 4" screen, They e-mailed me back w/in 15mins w/ an offer to send me out the replacement iPaq 4700 screen saver kit ($19.95 value) at NO COST! They are even paying for the shipping. Now that is what I call great customer service! So the least I can do is give them a plug here at Mobilitysite.com. Happy Holidays to all and may we all have a happy and healthy 2009.
  • Sounds like your son made out like a bandit! ;)

My son got a ton of Wii and DS games, along with movies and lots of other stuff. Daughters got all the girly things they wanted like dolls and stuffed toys.

Me...I asked for gift certs so that I could get something significant and ran out today to pick up an iPod Touch 8g second gen. Works like a charm! I'm looking forward to playing with it non-stop for the next week. :)
