How do you view Mobilitysite?

closeThis post was published 11 months 5 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.

I am digging for a little info on what resolution and browser our readers use to view the site. A sample from our logs seem to indicate that 40% are using IE and another 40% are using Firefox, with the last 20% spread across other browsers. I am happy to see that the logs show that 95% of the readers that visited last month are viewing at better than 1024×768. This data shows that more than 400k visitors last month are viewing at 1280x or higher. That is awesome. Still, I want to do a little live poll as well.

What Browser and Resolution do you use?

Also, does anyone have any display issues with the current layout of the site? The reason I ask is that I had the unfortunate chance to view Mobilitysite on an old PC with an old browser at 1024x and saw some CSS formatting issues. This resolution and browser has a VERY VERY LOW percentage in last months logs, but still, I like to make sure every viewer has the chance to view the site correctly.

Opera 9.6 @ 1680x1050, everything looks good here except the Mobius logo sits next to the MS MVP logo and runs off the right side. A pesky div issue I bet.

what issues? Ive been using chrome since day one and haven't had any problems.
  • The opera issue could have been fixed with the newest version of the software we use.
  • Hey! I just checked out some articles on Opera and whatever you've done to the website fixed the Opera issue! Thanks! It looks great now.
  • Yep. I am quite happy with the width. I prefer 1280 and the site renders well for me, I just saw how it looked an OLD browser and was mad. The right column with ads and links got moved to the bottom of the main content column. I think it's just an issue with the browser not being able to handle today's modern CSS and such.
  • I use Firefox 1024x768 at home and IE 6 1024x768 at work. Personally, I don't think a site should ever require more than 900 or so pixels width (and should render well on a VGA screen). Just because we may have wider monitors doesn't mean we want you (any site, really) to use it all. We may like seeing our other windows. ;)

The biggest issue I had seems fixed now. Clicking in the right margin used to display the RSS XML feed. That was very annoying because I often clicked there to bring the window back to the top.

I prefer Opera browser on my desktop, but MobilitySite's articles do not display properly once you go to the page to view the full article. I also use Opera mini and Opera Mobile on my pocket pcs.

I use Firefox and IE too, when Opera does not show properly.
  • I'm mostly using Camino (Mozilla based) on my MacBook (1280x800).

    Everything runs smoothly :-)

Safari 3.2.1 on the Mac, 1280 x 800. It displays just fine; I was having problems with the new comment system, as I told you privately, which went away for a bit but then came back.
  • I use Chrome almost exclusively now. I only switch to Firefox when posting on the forums as Chrome still doesn't play well with the submit button.

On my Axim I was using Opera Mobile but have been using Netfront all the time now.
  • Could you forward a screenshot to chris(at)mobilitysite.com showing this?

Opera (v 9.63)is my preferred browser. Mobility Site has problems with this browser. The main page is OK, but all "read more" pages has problems. I hope you fix this. Opera is the best!

Currently using Opera 9.63, Opera 10b and IE7 @ 1360x768. Opera 9.62 had some formating issues - the text came out too large, all caps and overlapping so it was impossible to read. Haven't experimented enough with 9.63 and 10b yet (although right now this page is OK in Opera 10b).

I use Fx at the following resolutions 1280x720 (desktop), 1024x768 (desktop), 1024x600 (netbook), Web (the default browser of the Nokia N800 internet tablet) at 800x480. On the phone I use Opera Mobile 9.5 at 640x480.

I use Safari on my Mac's (changed over from the PC world in March of this year). I also use Windows Mobile 6 on my E-Ten X800. I'd move over to the iPhone except for work I have Lotus Notes and don't have a way of syncing yet with the iPhone--but it will come. In the mean time, I have a maxed out memory iPod Touch.

Please include all portable devices, not just Windows in the site. You've tended to cover some of the iPhone stuff, but you do seem to have a slight bias.

I use both Chrome and IE7, depending on which computer I am using.
