Kevin over at JKontheRun discovered a the mystery device that everyone has been speculating on lately. It’s just as expected, a Netbook. (or whatever term Psion wants us to use now)

They are calling it the Sony P Series Vaio notebook. The specs are in line with other “netbooks”, but the screen resolution is much greater and knowing Sony, the build quality should be stellar. My wife had a 11″ screen on her Dell Inspiron and it was almost too tiny for my taste, I can only imagine what an 8″ screen is going to look like. Wow.

I think it really depends on what you expect. My Redfly has an 8" screen, and things are fairly readable when they remap the 320x240 screen to 800x480 (or whatever it is).

If you hope to see the same amount of information as you do on your desktop, though, you'll probably be disappointed. You'll either have to choose between making things larger (like icons) and displaying less or displaying the same amount but having the items be smaller than you're used to. If you have really good eyes, the latter might work for you, but if you're nearsighted like me, it probably won't.

This is one reason I've never been too excited about VGA PDAs. You'll see sharper icons and fonts, but you probably won't get 4x the information displayed as on a QVGA PDA with the same screen size. Maybe the improved sharpness will allow you to make things slightly smaller, but probably not 1/4 the size.
