500px-Android-logo.svg There have been a few sites reporting on the rumour that there will be an Android based phone coming to Sprint in the second quarter of this year.

There seems to be a lot of muscle getting behind the Android OS.  First we heard about Motorola hiring developers , Walmart’s plan to sell G1s, and now Samsung is jumping in to the fray.

For sure, 2009 is going to be a very interesting year for smartphones.  Is the iPhone still going to reign, will Microsoft be able to freshen up Windows Mobile, will RIM build on the apparent success of the Storm, will Nokia actually make some headway in North America, is Android going to take them all on?

All I can say for Palm is that they are TRULY going to need to WOW the pants off everyone is order to make any headway.  Yes, they have a following but it is shrinking.  This latest “New-ness” talk seems just way too desperate a move.  I hope for their sake they are not rushing a dog of an OS to market.

BTW, never EVER count Microsoft out of the game.  They have shown many times that they respond to competition well.  PLEASE give us a finger-friendly and compelling OS update in 2009 not matter what version number you assign to it!
