acer-phone-invite Acer had been hinting about their first  Smartphone appearing sometime in Q1 2009. Here we are in Q1…and apparently here it comes.

Making use of the remains of E-Ten, which they purchased some months ago, Acer says they are releasing a smartphone even though all we know about it is that it is running WinMo and probably has a touchscreen. Acer will be giving out all the details on February 16th at a press conference in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress hosted by Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci, followed by a buffer dinner and open bar.

AN OPEN BAR! I hope that’s a good sign. A really slick new Windows Mobile phone, perhaps the first to be running 6.5, would be a great thing right now before the Pre Panic truly begins and the new Android phones begin to drop.

Zealot has been involved with mobile devices for more than a decade now, starting off with dumb phones, moving to PDAs and then to smartphones, notebooks and netbooks with the odd PMP thrown in. Most of his mobile time currently is spent on a Treo Pro, Zune HD, Thinkpad T61, HP Mini 311, iPod Touch 3G, iPad 16G or a Hackintoshed Compaq Mini 704. He proudly groks the Geek community and considers himself a Neo Maxi Zune Dweebie (thanks Wil Wheaton!).
