Ok, maybe we didn’t get to know the Kogan Agora at all. We reported about the Kogan Agora back in December and many people have been looking forward to seeing this phone live. But even then I was a bit sceptical about it truly being released, at least at that price point.
Engadget has posted that the Agora is going to be a no show.
Unfortunately, scrappy Australian entrepreneur Ruslan Kogan has decided to delay the launch of his independently-designed phones indefinitely citing concerns over compatibility with future Android apps — concerns that were likely raised in a hush-hush meeting he’d recently scored with Google. One issue, it seems, is that the Agora’s screen resolution won’t likely play nice with Android apps going forward
It really is a shame but not a total shock. It does seem that Kogan was showing off a working prototype at CES, so why now the issues? My guess is that it doesn’t have anything to do with the technical issues, but rather that Kogan didn’t know what they were jumping in to. I don’t know that they have even done any kind of smartphone is the past.
Kogan had been taking preorders on this phone and had reportedly been very close to shipping. If that is true they would have already played with at least a couple prototypes and would already know if it was a workable device. How in the WORLD do you get that close to shipping when it is not a workable product?
Oh well. Hopefully we will see some variety from other players in the Android space soon.
