iRiver have brought a whole slew of new devices to CES that are typically iRiver. Powerful, stylish, no doubt expensive and different then the average gadgets on the market.
First off there is the previously announced W10 WAVE WiFi phone, with a 3-inch WQVGA (480 x 272) touchscreen, 4GB of memory, USB 3.0, FM radio, web access and cellphone functions.
Along a similar line is the fascinating WAVE-HOME multimedia communication Device, which is a desktop VoIP Phone with Video Conference capabilities, internet access and multimedia.
Next there are two interesting new PMPs. The first is based on the SPINN, the P35, with a 4.3-inch WQVGA touch panel, SPINN style physical access, built-in mic / speaker, TV output, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot, USB 2.0, WiFi, DMB mobile TV (in certain regions) and support for every file format known to man. Secondly we have the P7, a high-end unit aimed mainly as a mobile video player with a 4.3” WQVGA touchscreen, available in 4/8/16GB sizes, microSD slot, SRS WOW HD, FM Radio and a voice recorder.
The last new unit is pictured above and has knocked my socks off just from looking at it and reading the specs. This is DEFINETLY on my WANT!! list for 2009.It is a small, folding MID like unit which appears to be packed full with iRiver goodness called the D50. Here is what iRiver’s press release has to say about it.
Iriver’s powerful new D50 is a compact, keyboard-based networking and multimedia device that offers full Internet browsing and Instant Messaging in Wi-Fi environments. Featuring a large 4.8" TFT LCD (WVGA 800*480) with full touch screen interactivity, the D50 lets you enjoy multimedia on the fly, including Video, Music, Photo viewer, Office viewer, FM Radio, Voice Recording, and Dictionary. It provides 16GB Nand Flash (Micro SD Slot) and USB2.0.
FANTASTIC! I love the angular, blocky lines of the unit as well as the controls and what appears to be a clock on the top of the device. This is the kind of “breaking the mold” sort of device I love from companies like iRiver and I can’t wait to see pricing info.
