Circuit City Sales … will you go?

cc So will you go to your local Circuit City to see if there is a deal for you?  I’m hesitant because of the last experience I had with a store closing run by liquidators.  When CompUSA closed, I went every week during the sale and never found a deal that was worth jumping on.  In fact, what I did find was several items that were more than what they were before the liquidator took over.

I think if you do decide to head over that the best time is near the end of the sale, know what you are looking for and be familiar with what the prices are from other stores.  The chances are you will find the item cheaper at a different store or the net.  In fact, I would keep an eye on Best Buy because I’ll bet bet they will run a few sales during this period to draw you into their store.

Keep in mind that the liquidators are not Circuit City and have one purpose in mind … make money.  So is there any good news?  Yes!  Fortunately for our Canadian friends, their stores will remain open and will continue to run with the same great service.

I wouldn’t waste my time. The Circuit City closed out where I live before Christmas and it was exactly like you described. As far as I could tell, there really weren’t many deals.

I’ll probably stop in, but there is not much that I need these days. Maybe a photo scanner – I keep putting a purchase of one of those off. I did go to CompUSA several times and did end up getting some deals – Apple travel chargers, I think I bought an iPod case. Almost bought a Zune – they were definitely cheap.

Of course I will go to see what is there. Never really got any good deals at liquidations. It’s sort of sad to see the employees in their last hours. Big sale signs, but the liquidators are there to make money and the big deals don’t come until the end two or three months later when there is nothing but shelving and broken boxes. This is getting really scary, thousands of people out of work. Of course, I will go, and report to you, but I don’t have any hope of finding better prices than I can on the web. And since times are tough, I know there is nothing I really “need” right now. Of course, I need to go, to check it out. Of course….

When CompUSA was liquidating I bought the HTC Advantage for 40% off, or $560. Regular price was $900. I should’ve bought tons of them and sold them on ebay.

The only deals I considered when CompUSA went out of business were the Cell Phones. They were still locked to the carrier, but being sold without contract, but sold at contract rates plus the clearance discount. If Circuit City does the same thing, you may be able to upgrade your phone without increasing your contract.

Otherwise it was a complete ripoff. They were charging a premium for most products, even after the supposed close out discount and of course every sale is final.

I agree. I kept stopping in our local CompUSA when it was closing and the only thing I got from them was printer Ink and it was not really all that much cheaper than Office Depot.

went yesterday. What a waste! For instance, they wanted $300 for a 1TB external HDD (minus 10%). Yikes! I think they jacked up the prices and then lowered the new prices by 10%. MUCH better deals at Fry’s or online

True, but isn’t that what Circuit City’s purpose is, too? Most companies aren’t in it for philanthropic reasons. :D

I went to a Black Friday Circuit City closing in Phoenix last year and got some reasonable deals, I think. I bought a Belkin N1 Vision router for under $100, a Pinnacle HDTV tuner/memory stick for under $100 and a Parrot Bluetooth speaker for under $40 (although another electronics store was selling it for the same price).

However, I also saw lots of prices that didn’t seem that great, so buyer beware (as usual).

I think your final comment says it all Steve: “However, I also saw lots of prices that didn’t seem that great, so buyer beware”
