Does HTC Have the Palm Pre’s Number?

closeThis post was published 10 months 16 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.

htcvspre According to Smarthouse (via Engadget), a Telstra Executive is saying that HTC has a new phone coming out that will be running Android that would “take on” the Apple iPhone and the Palm Pre. It’s kind of interesting that folks are already comparing the Pre to the iPhone. I guess the world agrees with me that Palm hit a homer with their announcement.

Australia’s Smarthouse cites a particularly cocky Telstra exec saying that he’s got an upcoming HTC set that’s “better and more functional” than the Pre — and seeing how he enjoyed a Palm briefing this week, he’d have a pretty good idea. Rumor has it this Pre killer will run a version of Android with HTC tweaks and will have a huge display, which seems like a good combo if you’re trying to impress a jaded smartphone buyer these days.

I had a conversation with one of my friends at CES earlier this week about how Palm’s new OS might put a big damper on Android’s hopes and dreams. I mentioned that with HTC backing Android, it would be highly unlikely that it would just go away. I think this news will prove just that.

  • Ya, this was pretty interesting. I would love to see the HTC Android phone. They have done a great job with WinMo so an Android phone would be pretty interesting.
