Way to go Palm, Stand your ground

Apple sold 4.5 Million iPhones last year, but does that give them the right to claim ownership of any and everything having to do with a touch screen? They have some patents, big deal. Threatening companies paints a nasty image of a company in my opinion. Just the the other day, Apple’s CCO, Tim Cook had this to say…
We like competition, as long as they don’t rip off our IP, and if they do, we’re going to go after anybody that does … We will not stand for having our IP ripped off and we’ll use whatever weapons we have at our disposal [to make sure that doesn't happen]. I don’t know that I can be more clear than that.
No doubt that this was directed at the likes of Palm and the Android OS. Maybe Microsoft too, but who knows really. Apple didn’t invent the egg, they hit a homerun making the egg very user friendly with a stellar, dumbed down UI, but they didn’t invent the egg. Now Palm has come out with a statement that makes me proud. Lynn Fox, a Palm Spokesperson said this yesterday…
Palm has a long history of innovation that is reflected in our products and robust patent portfolio, and we have long been recognized for our fundamental patents in the mobile space,” she told Digital Daily. “If faced with legal action, we are confident that we have the tools necessary to defend ourselves.”
With all the ex-Apple folks at Palm now, I am sure there might be more to all this than what we know, but to the public, this looks a lot like Apple making false accusations. Good Job Palm. Keep it up.
