If not, what happens when Android appears on more carriers, some of which are willing to allow apps like tethering and some of which aren't? You can have Open Source software that's locked down without creating a universe ending paradox. :D While Windows Mobile doesn't have to deal with restrictive markets like the iPhone and, to a lesser degree, Android, some carriers do application lock Windows Mobile phones. Without carrier-specific apps, Google’s Market will be a lowest common denominator place.

Went to Application settings and told it to allow non-market applications, went to the website for the app, and downloaded and installed the apk. simple! Here is were the alternate to Market app store like Slideme can really get a moving.
