A few days ago I commented about the Celio Redfly adding support for BlackBerrys. I came across that bit of information first while researching to purchase a Celio RedFly myself and then while I’ve been …

Become a Palm Pre "Real Reviewer"

Palm is searching for real life situation reviewers. Not the media kinds, the real reviewers. Soccer moms, business man that are never at a desk, you name it. All you have to do is fill out a survey for a chance. I like this approach to be honest. The only problem I see is that readers might not be swayed by the results since they are likely to only be published on Palm’s though Palm’s media channels.

We’re looking for a few “Real Reviewers” to share their opinions about Palm phones across the blogosphere, social networks and beyond. If you’re selected as a Real Reviewer, we’ll provide you with a current-model phone and data-plan service for six months. We’ll expect you to regularly share your thoughts about your experiences with your phone on whatever blogs and social networks you frequent (but you’re already doing that, right?). We might even invite you to guest blog about your experiences right here on Palm’s blog or host a discussion board on our Facebook page.

What’s the catch? There’s really just one: be yourself. Whether you’re a fanboy or a skeptic, we want to hear from you.

If you’re interested, apply here, Palm will select the “Real Reviewers” on May 8, 2009.

  • Two points. First, they didn't say you'd get a Pre, just a "current-model phone". That could be a Centro or Treo, too (although I think most of us hope it would be a Pre).

Second, the text encouraged you to blog about it and comment on it at the sites you already frequent, so I don't think the experiences will only be available through Palm-controlled channels. They said they might invite you to blog at a Palm site, but that really sounds secondary to the main point.

If they were only hosting comments at a Palm site, I agree that wouldn't likely convince too many people, but I don't think Palm is being that controlling. It seems like a "guerilla light" campaign to me.

P.S. Jason at Thoughts Media did at least one "real world review", too. He took a phone and gave it to a friend to review instead of reviewing it himself. The review wasn't as polished or thorough as a normal review, but it also reflected more what a normal person would think of the device.
