imageGood grief man … I just [finally] upgraded my system to Vista, am thinking about going to Windows 7 when they release it and now you’re talking about Windows 8? So it would seem, according to this article published in  Redmond Magazine.

Obviously Version 8 would be several years away but sometimes this gets crazy.  For some reason I thought I read somewhere else that Windows 7 was going to be the last major release for awhile.  Guess not!

One thing’s for sure; there’s not going to be any lack of work for this Olde Country Windows programmer for a long time!  Click on the Logo below to read more about it.

  • I recall reading that Windows 7 would the last traditional release of Windows, not the last version for a while. That means that future versions might not be so monolithic; maybe you'll get components, maybe they'll be downloaded from the Net instead of installed, whatever.

I also don't think it will be "several" years for Windows 8 (depending on how you define "several", of course; to me, several is more than "a few" -- which is 3-5 or 7 -- therefore 6-8). If I recall correctly, Vista was released in late 2006 (to businesses) and early 2007 (to consumers), and Windows 7 is supposed to go gold in early 2010, so that will only be 3-3.5 years or so. If WIndows 8 follows a similar schedule, that would put it out in 2013.

Of course, if they follow the XP to Vista path, things may be different. :D
